I woke up today to the traffic news that Irish musician Glen Hansard transcended from this coil of existence at the age of 56 years.
The first time I listen to his powerful music was with the soundtrack of Once, for which him and his long time collaborator Markéta Irglová won a Oscar for best original song, Falling Slowly.
It was the soundtrack of a few road trips, hearing a songwriter that is at the level of Bob Dylan on the open road was a spiritual experience.
It was his 2015 album, Didn’t He Ramble, that got me thru some thought times, his passionate rendition, deep lyrics and that spark of hope that resonated in his voice was uplifting.
To honor his beautiful art, I’ll play on repeat all those songs that held in the dark, that wiped away all the silent tears and brought me such joy
You are eternal Glen, and you will be greatly missed.
