To say that this past August was one of the most hectic months of recent memory will be an understatement. It has been to my present and futures endeavors a game changer, which, I’m pretty excited to take on, but in order to get things rolling, my massive reading session had to be put on hold.
Much to my surprise, the momentum that was created in the first few months of the current year, didn’t suffer as much. This doesn’t mean that I haven’t fallen behind my schedule, but not as drastically as my busy mind imagine.
So, I find myself two weeks behind schedule, and my total is roughly above the 13,000-pages mark. How, you may ask, am I going to get back on track, fairly easy. I’ll start with my morning mantra : one step at a time, one page at a time, and from there, the lost terrain shall be reclaim.
To get the first leg moving, and getting back my purpose realign with my path, I’ll go back to a familiar and trustworthy friend, fantasy stories, in the shape of the first Omnibus of legendary characters from the popular tabletop game Warhammer, Gotrek and Felix, following the mishaps of the tough as nails Dwarf and his human chronicler/poet companion.
Right now, I am on page 317 of this highly entertaining adventure, and feeling my reading spark reignited.
Welcome to this installment of Magic Monday, also known as my weekly update, not to jinx it, but 4 weeks in a row actually being must be a record.
I can feel just things are falling into a rhythm that reignites my hope to get to my coveted goal just in time . There´s no better example of this than my perpetual challenge of reading 52 books on 52 weeks. Just as the ninth week starts, I’m working on book number nine of the year, The Herald, the final chapter of the Sundering series, the cataclysmic event that reshaped the Forgotten Realms, the book follows the fight of legendary wizard Elminster for the future of Faerûn, as the Goddess of magic withdraws from existence, our hero faces the Shadovar for the faith of all existnez
For this week’s in-between reading, and with the excitement of the premiere of The Sandman series on Netflix, I see no better way to get ready that to read the whole ten volumes of this game changing comic book series.
Now let’s talk about MY NUMBERS, the current total is 10,827 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, a pretty awesome progress of 1,500 pages for the week, with this, the second milestone has been achieved, the 10,000-page mark. Still, the 3,000 plus week, eludes me, but there are glimpses of hope, there’s only a matter of time that this too shall fall.
My reading schedule, the Achilles heel of the whole shebang, is an amazing five days ahead, this gives me the focus to keep the pace and make the 70,000-page year a reality. The mantra for every morning will continue to be:, one step at a time, one page at a time.
I start week nine with a whopping surplus of 1,212 pages, given my breathing room to hit the upcoming week’s quota a little more relax. The quota for the month of July was met .
For the first 500,000 pages, I have only 72,797 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is December 8, 2024 that’s 11 days earlier than the last projection, my sights are still pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, now I have 238 days to do so.The gap narrowed from 641 to 631 days behind schedule.
The second part of the journey, or the other 500,000 pages, my weekly pages needed are now 1,476 with a daily average of 211 pages, one daily pages less than the last projection.
Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 6,764 days away, a 33 day gain from the last projection, making the end date is February 6, 2041 that’s 3,534 days after the original plan, 26 days less that the last projection. I have to keep reminding myself that my goal is to reach my goal by my 50th birthday, right now, I would be 59 years 8 months, and 1 days old.
As I was saying on my last post, there was only the matter of tallying my most recent reads, and second milestone of the year was surely would be surpass.
According to my projections, the 10,000-page day is August 2, of the current year, achieving this a couple of days before is a first in all of my fifteen years of the project.
My current total is 10,827 pages, and my projections still put me over 70,000 total pages at the end of the year.
With July coming to a close tomorrow, there’s still have one challenge left to round up what I set out to achieve for the month.
As you can tell, with the headline, what I’m referring to is my total hours for the month July, which 62 in total. Right now those pesky almost 14 hours are standing in my way to close out that particular challenge for the first time in this reading year
The good news are that my monthly page quota is now presenting a considerable surplus, 814 pages to be precise, also, I’m pretty sure that the next milestone, 10,000 total pages, has been reach, just have to tally the final three graphic novels that I read yesterday and today
Let’s see how many tomorrow starts, and how viable is it to cross that threshold.
Welcome to this installment of Magic Monday, also known as my weekly update, now starting it’s third week in a row being in the right day.
The year progressing quite beautifully, being hitting my mark, and everything is clicking just right. This includes is my perpetual challenge of reading 52 books on 52 weeks. Just as the eight week starts, I’m working on book number eight of the year, I find that it has become a bit easier to keep this rhythm as the weeks progress.
The book on the plate right is The Sentinel, the fifth book of the Sundering series, the cataclysmic event that reshaped the Forgotten Realms, this particular book follows the quest of paladin Kleef Kenric to fight the evil forces from The Sundering, the quest will take him to the Underdark to face the rise of a very powerful Goddess.
I took a slight detour from my adventures on the vast world of Dungeons and Dragons, this, to tackle some of the graphic novels that have been sitting on my to read shelf, literally on a physical shelf were I put what is next on the queue. This includes my current favorite on-going series, Justice League Dark, The Dawn of X Volumes 6 and 7, Skottie Young´s second volume of the highly entertaining Strange Academy, an original graphic novel written and illustrated by the amazing Jeff Lemire, and to top things off the first two volumes of the second season of Grant Morrison´s Green Lantern run.
Now let’s talk about MY NUMBERS, the current total is 9,327 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, a pretty awesome progress of 1,253 pages for the week, with this, I broke the “worst year jinx”. Still, the 3,000 plus week, eludes me, but there are glimpses of hope, there’s only a matter of time that this too shall fall.
My reading schedule, the Achilles heel of the whole shebang, is still three days ahead, this gives me the focus to keep the pace and make the 70,000-page year a reality. The mantra for every morning will continue to be:, one step at a time, one page at a time.
I start the week eight with a whopping surplus of 1,036 pages, given my breathing room to hit the upcoming week’s quota a little more relax. The quota for the month of July sits pretty comfortably at 96%.
For the first 500,000 pages, I have only 74,297 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is December 19, 2024 that’s 10 days earlier than the last projection, my sights are still pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, now I have 238 days to do so.The gap narrowed from 651 to 641 days behind schedule.
The second part of the journey, or the other 500,000 pages, my weekly pages needed are now 1,482 with a daily average of 212 pages, one daily pages less than the last projection.
Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 6,797 days away, a 25 day gain from the last projection, making the end date is March 4, 2041 that’s 3,560 days after the original plan, 18 days less that the last projection. I have to keep reminding myself that my goal is to reach my goal by my 50th birthday, right now, I would be 59 years 8 months, and 27 days old.
The impending, self imposed deadline to reach the first half million pages, that, of you remember, is on March 20, 2023 , has only 239 days to peak it´s ugly head and with it the completion of the first leg of the journey, and while we are here, I’ll give you a quick run down of this year’s numbers so far.
Starting with how things are going in the fifteen year of reading. Well, fortunately, I’m right on track to reach the 64,942. My current total is 9,119, and my average is 190 pages per day, that’s 12 pages above daily average needed to achieve this year´s goal.
Things are progressing as they should, as you can see from the Goals App image, what started with 77,554 pages to the coveted 500,000-page mark, it now has a 4% progress, not the flashy number but a constant movement in the right direction. As the other four tasks in my tracker, things are right where they should be, in some cases, a little ahead of schedule . You can see a full run down of my challenges in the image below.
Using the Goals app to give quick track of my progress.
Now for the main concern is the 74,505 pages left, and according to my projections, I will be arriving to this milestone on December 22, 2024. This date puts me 635 days behind schedule, 33 days earlier that the last projection of this particular goal. The challenge now is to read an average of 311 pages, which I have done some in more that one occasion in the last 10 days, but it has to become the benchmark of each and everyday for the foreseeable future.
Welcome to this installment of Magic Monday, also known as my weekly update, now starting it’s second week in a row being in the right day.
The year progressing quite beautifully, being hitting my mark, and everything is clicking just right. This includes is my perpetual challenge of reading 52 books on 52 weeks. Just as the seventh week starts, I’m working on the seventh book of the year, this kind of rhythm is hard to maintain, and keep it up for seven weeks in quite the accomplishment .
The book on the plate right is The Reaver, the fourth book of the Sundering series, the cataclysmic event that reshaped the Forgotten Realms, this particular book follows the quest of Anton Marivaldi of finding some ransom, but what he doesn’t know that the person in question could bring ill consequences to the existence of the world.
To keep my adventures on the vast world of Dungeons and Dragons, right now on my queue there are three graphic novels from the modern-era of this vast universe, starting of with an event that has repercussions in all the planes, The Shadowplague, the dark are determined to reduce the world into shadows, being left only a few beacons of hope from which new heroes arise.
Now let’s talk about MY NUMBERS, the current total is 8,074 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, a pretty awesome progress of 2,004 pages for the week, and fast approaching, with only 656 pages left, the breaking of what I like to call the “worst year jinx”. Still, the 3,000 plus week, eludes me, but with this pass weeks results, two days with 400 or more pages, there’s only a matter of time that this too shall fall.
My reading schedule, the Achilles heel of the whole shebang, is finally looking-up, right now I’m three days ahead this gives me the focus to keep the pace and make the 70,000-page year a reality.
The mantra for every morning will continue to be:, one step at a time, one page at a time.
I start the week seven with a whopping surplus of 959 pages, given my breathing room to hit the upcoming week’s quota a little more relax. The quota for the month of July sits pretty comfortably at 70%, also ahead of schedule by around 600 pages.
For the first 500,000 pages, I have only 75,550 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is December 29, 2024 that’s 23 days earlier than the last projection, my sights are still pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, now I have 245 days to do so.The gap narrowed from 673 to 651 days behind schedule.
The second part of the journey, or the other 500,000 pages, my weekly pages needed are now 1,489 with a daily average of 213 pages, two daily pages less than the last projection.
Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 6,822 days away, a 47 day gain from the last projection, making the end date is March 22, 2041 that’s 3,578 days after the original plan, 44 days less that the last projection. I have to keep reminding myself that my goal is to reach my goal by my 50th birthday, right now, I would be 59 years 9 months, and 17 days old.
Yesterday was, and hopefully the only one, the first day with zero pages read.
But fear not, this didn’t kept me from achieving this week’s quota and then some. With a few hours still left in this lazy Sunday, I have a total of 1,479, and 596 pages of surplus.
The passed three weeks my quota has been surpassed, and I intent to keep this steak going. Not to be cocky, but my aim is at the lower part of 70K of total reading pages.
Speaking of total pages, with 9 days left to the first 50 days of my year of reading, and to keep my superstitious mind at ease, I’m glad to say that there’s only 923 pages left to make officially this year not my worse one.
I have just finished the four volumes of Forgotten Realms Classics, they quite the treat, some old school , simple art with some adaptation of how the actions work in the table-top game, they call the name of the spells in runes, and you can see the translation in the footer.
Now I’m moving on to some more recent series, yesterday I read Shadow of the Vampire, that much to my surprise, has integrated some of the horror modules from the seminal campaigns of Ravenloft.
Right now I’m working on the next chapter, The Frost Giant’s Fury, and browsing thru what’s available in my Kindle Unlimited membership, I found two other volumes, they’re not directly follows my current read, that would be Evil at Baldur’s Gate and A Darkened Wish.
But I see no problem in reading first Infernal Tides and At the Spine of the World, and then going back to the previous volumes.
In between these amazing graphic novels, I’ll tackle the fourth book of the cataclysmic event known as The Sundering , with Richard Lee Byers’ The Reaver, we follow Anton Marivaldi’s incursions with some unsavory characters, that could have world-changing consequences.
The main for the weekend is to overtake my worst year of reading, I need only 1,602 in the next 13 day. It has become quite the superstitious tradition that if by the first 50 days of reading, if I haven’t reach said milestone, the itch starts to get a hold off me.
Keeping a close watch to the impending, self imposed deadline to reach the first half million pages, that, of you remember, is on March 20, 2023 . These leaves me with 249 days to complete the first leg of the journey, and while we are here, give you a quick run down of this year’s numbers so far.
Starting with how things are going in the fifteen year of reading. Well, fortunately, I’m right on track to reach the 64,942. My current total is 6,548, and my average is 177 pages per day, just a little under the daily average needed to achieve this year´s goal, but nothing major.
In order to keep a better tally off how things are progressing I added a new challenge in the Goals App, in addition to the the total pages for the year and month, and the total hours of the year a month, a new countdown to the coveted 500,000-page mark. It starts with a total 77,554 pages. You can see the run down of my challenges in the image below.
Using the Goals app to give quick track of my progress.
Now for the main concern, right now I still have 77,076 pages left, and according to my projections, I will be arriving to this milestone on January 15, 2025. This date puts me 668 days behind schedule. The challenge now is to read an average of 305 pages, not impossible, but mind you, quite the gargantuan task.
