Numbers: May 7,2021

My three-week long Star Wars reading marathon is in full swing, and its paying off with some amazing dividets, more than 800 pages in only 3 days, last week I didn’t update, because there was nothing to update.

That being said let me update you on my progress for these two weeks of reading.

My current total is 19,672 of the 37, 984 pages of this year’s goal, and with 31 days left on this year of reading the main goal is to have the best possible starting point for the upcoming years,

In not so good news, once again I have fallen even more behind my reading schedule, it went from 82 to 86 days , hopefully this reading surge will help me gain a bit of room to finish strong.

The projections for total pages for the year sits at 22,604, that’s a 302 improvement from last week, this type of positive numbers are great motivators to take the final weeks and finish at least 1,000 pages over that projection.

On the broader picture, my numbers show some signs of life, I keep chipping away days and pages to read.

This is most evident on the dates for reaching my first 500,000 pages, the pages to read are now 154,784, that’s 1,778 from the last update, and the new date is December 19, 2026, a 19 day gain from two weeks ago, I have finally enter year 2026, a step closer to the original end date of March 20, 2023, every day counts.

Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight the projections puts it 8,721 days away, a 33 day gain from two weeks ago, which would mean that the end date is March 23, 2045, and 5,040 days after the original plan, 20 days less.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back, here are this week’s final numbers:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 154,785 pages (1,476 pages less than two weeks ago)
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,721 days (33 days less than two weeks ago)
  • Days behind schedule: 5,040 days (20 days less than two weeks ago)

What concerns the next decade of reading, this week’s adjustment show a bit of improvement on both my yearly and daily average, they finish like this:

  • Pages needed/year: 65,470 (147 pages less than two weeks ago)
  • Pages needed/day: 179 (1 less than two weeks ago)

I’ll continue with reading some great adventures from one of my favorite universes, and hopefully next week will be as productive as this one

Off to read.

Although it might seem as this week’s reading was a bust, I know the progress will pay off in the long run, also I started on Thursday Bookly’s spring readathon (update coming right after this post), and by the end of this 4-day reading period, and consequently next week’s number will improve dramatically.

That being said let me update you on the total number of the current year of reading, number thirteen.

My current total is 18,196 of the 37, 984 pages of this year’s goal, with 44 days to sum-up as many pages as possible, and get a better starting point for the upcoming years, now for the not so good news,I snapped a two week streak of not falling behind my reading schedule, it went from 76 days to 82, what little room to breath I gained it got a bit smaller.

The projections for total pages for the year sits at 22,302, that’s a 128 improvement from last week, I’ll take any positive positive numbers as a good sign .

On the main focus of the year, finishing the epic fantasy series The Malazan Book of the Fallen, I am working non-stop on finishing the tenth and final book, The Crippled God, currently on page 361.

The part that most concern me this week was the step back I had on the broader picture, my numbers just went up a little bit, nothing of catastrophic, but still it gets me anxious.

This is most evident on the dates for reaching my first 500,000 pages, the pages to read are now 156,261 and the new date is January 7, 2027, five more days than last week, a drop in the ocean of the almost 4 years difference from the first projected date of March 20, 2023, but still every day counts.

The golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, according to the projections, is 8,754 days away, four more days than last week, which would mean that the end date is April 12, 2045, almost two weeks lost compared to last week, and 5,060 days after the original plan, there’s still a lot of work, but I can’t afford not lower my numbers each and every week.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back, here are this week’s final numbers:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 156,261 pages (312 pages less than last week)
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,754 days (4 days more than last week)
  • Days behind schedule: 5,060 days (12 days more than last week)

What concerns the next decade of reading, this week’s adjustment show a bit of improvement on both my yearly average, and stayed the same for my daily average needed, they finish like this:

  • Pages needed/year: 65,626 (31 pages less than last week)
  • Pages needed/day: 180 (stayed the same)

I will focus on reaching the goal of Bookly’s Spring Readathon, which is tracking 10 hours reading using the app, is hopefully the numbers of next week will reflect this.

Off to read.

Numbers: April 16, 2021

Another solid week reading, I edge closer to some of my goals of this year, and although I had a few not so productive days at the end of this week, there was some forward motion, and milestone reached.

I’ll begin with the total number of the current year of reading, number thirteen.

My current total is 17,884 of the 37, 984 pages of this year’s goal, with 52 days left to get as close as possible to that original number , for some positive aspects, and for the second week in a row, is that I’m still 76 days behind my reading schedule, same as last week, this means that I am on schedule, just have to push a bit to get some room to breath.

The projections for total pages for the year sits at 22,174, that’s a 683 improvement from last week, I’ll take any positive numbers as a good omen.

On the main focus of the year, finishing the epic fantasy series The Malazan Book of the Fallen, I finished Dust of Dreams, which left me breathless, and wondering what in the hell can go worst on the tenth volume, The Crippled God, currently on page 90.

I am seeing some improvement on the broader picture, my numbers have started to drop and everything feels like is gaining momentum, my job is to keep it up, and build upon it.

This is most evident on the dates for reaching my first 500,000 pages, the pages to read are now 156,573, and the new date is January 2, 2027, still almost 4 years difference from the first projected date of March 20, 2023, but it has constantly gone down.

The golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, according to the projections, is 8,750 days away, which would mean that the end date is March 31, 2045, 5,048 days after the original plan, as with my other numbers, there’s still a lot of work, but this pass few weeks I got back to lowering the numbers.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back, here are this week’s final numbers:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 156,573 pages (1,184 pages less than last week)
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,750 days (33 days less than last week)
  • Days behind schedule: 5,048 days (26 days less than last week)

What concerns the next decade of reading, this week’s adjustment show some improvement on both my daily and yearly average, and they finish like this:

  • Pages needed/year: 65,657 (119 pages less than last week)
  • Pages needed/day: 180 (stayed the same)

I will have to venture out this week to replenish my printed graphic novel bounty, it’s running a bit low, and I saw some interesting things eagerly awaiting in those shelves .

Off to read.

Numbers: April 9, 2021

This week’s reading has restored my faith in the possibility of reaching the coveted 1,000,000-page mark, it wasn’t a phenomenal week, but I see signs of forward motion.

Let’s start with the total number of this thirteen year of reading.

My current total is 16,700 of the 37, 984 pages of this year’s goal, with 59 days left to reaching, it has became really evident that I’ll have to settle for a lower total, some positive news are that I’m still 76 days behind my reading schedule, same as last week, the fact that I didn’t add any days is a win in my books.

Right now my projections of total pages for the year sits at 22,174, a bit off an improvement, and a number I can live with.

The main focus of the year remains with finishing the epic fantasy series The Malazan Book of the Fallen, currently on page 650 of Dust of Dreams, the ninth volume of the series, that will leave me the 908 pages of the tenth volume, The Crippled God.

On the broader picture things are starting to progress forward, the concerning signs from the last few weeks are starting to dissipate, and postive numbers are starting to pop-up everywhere.

Going thru my calculations, I’ll found new and improved dates for reaching my first 500,000 pages, with 157,757 pages to read, it now is January 15, 2027, 10 days less tham last week projections, there’s still a lot of work to do in order to meet the first projected date of March 20, 2023.

The 1,000,000 pages, according to the projections, are 8,783 days away, which would mean that the end date is April 26, 2045, 5,074 days after the original plan, there is a significant improvement on the days I’m from reaching the 1,000,000-page mark of 27 days from last week’s calculations.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back, here are this week’s final numbers:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 157,757 pages (1,037 pages less than last week)
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,783 days (27 days less than last week)
  • Days behind schedule: 5,074 days (20 days less than last week)

What concerns the next decade of reading, this week’s adjustment was on the positive sideon both my daily and yearly average, and they finish like this:

  • Pages needed/year: 66,776 (104 pages less than last week)
  • Pages needed/day: 180 (stayed the same)

I’ll ride this positive wave of forward progress, I’ll keep feeding it with some intense and mindful sessions.

Off to read.

I was dreading going thru my digital files, this is of course because my reading has been good, and not spectacular, I’m in desperate need of the latter.

Let’s start with the total number of this thirteen year of reading.

My current total is 15, 658 of the 37, 984 pages of this year’s goal, and with 66 days left, it will see more far fetched to hit the mark, right now I am 76 days behind my reading schedule.

With some intense reading I’ll probably sum-up around 21,000 pages, not a bad year.

Still, this year’s main focus will be to finish with the epic fantasy series The Malazan Book of the Fallen, currently on the ninth volume well underway, and the tenth just eager to jump off the shelf.

On the broader picture things are starting to get back to normal, the last few weeks I saw some concerning signs of going backwards, situations which is now well under control.

According to my calculations, I’ll will be reaching my first 500,000 pages, there are still 158,794 pages to read, on January 25, 2027, there’s still a lot of work to do in order to meet the first projected date of March 20, 2023, this gives me my first focus for the upcoming years.

In the mater of the 1,000,000 pages, I’m 8,810 away from this, my ultimate goal, that will mean that the end date would be May 16, 2045, a whopping 5,094 days after the original plan to finish by my 50th birthday, keeping this pace I would finish by the time to almost celebrate my 64th birthday, which it will simply not do.

This is my second focus, or as I put it, the Journey Back, all of my effort will be pour into it.

In order keep track of this, I’ll be posting weekly how my numbers fluctuate, with that in mind, here there are:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 158,794 pages
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,810 days
  • Days behind schedule: 5,094 days

I’ll be keeping this same format thru-out the upcoming posts to better share my progress.

Starting this upcoming June, I’ll be officially entering the last decade of this particular project, I have been keeping track how many pages I would need to read on a daily and yearly basis in order to reach my coveted goal, as with my numbers above, I’m going to keep track up until the beginning of year number fourteen, and making the necessary adjustments to hit the 1,000,000-page mark, for now they stand like so :

  • Pages needed/year: 65,880
  • Pages needed/day: 180

Lots of things have been set into motion, time to execute them.

Off to read.

Numbers: March 15, 2021

With only 83 days left on my year of reading, the ever present phantom of my total pages to read is more and more in my mind.

As I have explained before, there are two types of pages in my progress logs, net pages, which represent all pages that I have read, even if I haven’t finish reading that particular book, for example, I am reading a bunch of short story collections, and they are registered as progress, but they are not registered in my digital files until the final page is read, which are known to this project as registered pages.

For now, I am go into to focus on how many net pages I still have left to read, there are a few things that I haven’t got the chance to registered yet, but I am fairly certain that the 15,000 page mark for this year of reading is within grasp.

So, I have still 20,907 pages to reach this year’s goal, that’s around 250 pages per day, a gargantuan task but with the upcoming readathons I believe that something amazing will transpire.

As always my philosophy is the same, one page at a time, and day by day reading will get me there.

The focus is the 6,665 pages left on my March goal, and to help along the way, I started my day with some black coffee, and The Uncanny X-men.

Off to read.

Balancing act, part seven

This weekend’s readathon didn’t yield the outcome I hoped for, this of course entirely my fault.

I read for about 5 hours, and only 300 pages, not what I was hoping for.

But that’s a missed opportunity, one ot will not happen again, as I check the numbers left for this year of reading,I find the window is closing to achieve my goal, and leave the next 10 year of my project as I predicted.

This gives me a pathway, and motivation, to reach those goals, starting of with my balancing act for February, from which, I still have 6,545 pages to go.

This with the endgame of reading the 37,984 that make up this year’s goal, from which I still have 22,733 pages to go, and about 119 days to do so.

As all the times I feel discouraged, or overwhelmed by my task, I ask for assistance to some of my favorite characters, and authors.

This is the bounty to help me along the way.

Let’s get to it.

Balancing act, part six

I finished the month of January not quite the way I would have liked.

My total was 4,005 for the whole month, from the 6,505 projected to achieve some balance on my year of reading.

So I am back on the drawing board, and the strategy will be pretty much the same, to read my ass off.

The new number to achieve balance for the month of February will be 7,272 pages, that for a short month is quite the challenge, but as always, I am up for it.

For what concerns my total numbers for this year, number thirteen of this project, I am pleased with my progress, my total page count is 12,918, and with 126 days left on this transitional and short year, I am confident I’ll rise up to the challenges left.

My focus is on two impending issues, first, reaching my next milestone, 15,000 pages, from which I am 2,802 pages away from, and the second is to cut the days behind my reading schedule, 37, to at least half that by the end of February.

For the ultimate goal, reading 1,000,000 pages, I would wish for better news, but right now, according to my projections, the date of reaching that goal is April 4, 2045, fourteen years later from my 50th birthday, that would mean I would be 63 years, 9 months, and 30 days old.

As always I am working on getting those numbers down, quite successfully I might add, and will continue to o so.

For now, I am off to read, and scheme.

Numbers: December 16, 2020

With just a few days left before my week long readathon, I still have a lot of things I would like to achieve before it starts.

The main one is to finish with book seven of The Malazan book of the Fallen, Reaper’s Gale.

I just passed the halfway point, currently on page 512 of 1003, and this will be my focus for this remaining days.

On my epic December plan to read more than 8,000 pages on the month, I am progressing as the Fellowship of the Ring thru the Pass of Caradhras, really slow and cold, minus the snow, I still have 7,793 pages to go.

This only gets me more hyped up for the upcoming intense week of reading.

On the broader picture for this year of reading I still have 30,714 pages to reach my goal, this task over 172 days left.

Right now I am reading the third volume of the comic book series Queen Sonja .

For now, I am off to read.

azr.

Numbers: 28 of November,2020

I haven’t updated my numbers in a while, and let me tell you, it is not very promising.

My total for this year is 3,898 of the 37,984 pages of my goal.

I am fully aware that my mind is preoccupied with another pressing matters but also this is a very short year of reading, so I have to make every little moment count.

Right now I am 24 days behind schedule, but December will be an intensive month of reading , and hopefully; I’ll get back on track.

On the broader picture, I have a total of 329,441 pages, and according to my calculations my 1,000,000 pages goal is 9,025 days away, that will mean that I’m 5,184 days behind schedule.

Should I keep this pace up, I would be 64 years, 2 months, and 9 days old when my coveted goal is reach, only 14 years late.

Well I am not having it, slowly but steady, those days will be reduced.

For now, I am off to read.
