(Y-10) epicness brewing

I have planned two days of pure epicness reading

My crazy plan is to read, or at least try, 1,000 pages in a two-day span, I know, fucking crazy.

I’ll probably post a couple of times each day to tell you about my progress.

Wish me luck.

On other matters, my bullet journal is coming along nicely.

Here are some new updates I have been working on.

Keeping daily progress, things have been a little red, but a sweeping block of blue is in the forecast.

These pages above is dubbed “the colossus of the wolf” in which, I keep track of the major goal of this year, reaching those 97,000 total pages.

I think if the goal is achieved, of course, a commemorative piece of art should be created, luckily I’m surrounded by really talented people.

And lastly, below you can see an example of my daily logs, I know a bit obsessive.

Now back to it, I have a couple of crazy long days ahead of me.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) strange limbo

Well here I am, two weeks into the new year and not quite catching a good reading rithym.

A few things had change in the past weeks and let just say that my available reading will grow exponentially.

On a positive note, I just completed my Legend of Drizzt collection and are ready to dwell with the legendary drow.

For now I’ll pound away at Lord of the Rings and The Halfling’s Gem, hopefully I will be done with both of them by the weekend. Which, consequently, will be the perfect opportunity to announce by new plans for the future of Lost in a million pages.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) back to reality

After a few days of relaxing, eating and drinking is now back to the daily grind.

But first, let me go back a few days while I was still on vacation.

The last outing of this great trip was to the magical town of Tequila, Jalisco.

As the name obviously gives it away it is the birthplace of one of Mexico’s most emblematic spirit.

The visit consistent of a tour to one of the many tequila distillers, La Cofradia,  were you firstly get acquainted with the agave plant, the basis of it all, the cooking process, the fermentation, the aging process and of course lots of sampling, including, a 55 proof tequila, pure and strait.

After a couple of hours of strolling around this gorgeous place I went to the downtown area, keep on drinking and eating. Quite the magnificent day I’ll say.

Now back to the reading part, my plans for my vacation reading was not what I expect, but who cares it was really soothing.

I manage to finish two book of the Legend of Drizzt saga and read about 1/3 of the Fall of Cthulhu graphic novel.

So this gave me the following numbers:

Total pages for (Y-10) : 5.002 pages

Total pages left for (Y-10) : 91,764 pages

Total books left for (Y-10): 46 books

I’ll get back to reading and flirting with the idea of a 100 book year.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) exploring and reading ( pictures included)

As I predicted things have been moving at snail pace and I’m loving it.

In the morning, the usual ritual ensues, coffee and reading, then the day really starts, some have been totally relaxed and others have been filled with visits to cool places.

This past two days have been the latter version.

First I had finally the chance to visit Templo Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento, this really cool neo-gothic church.

It’s building started on 1897 by the famous Italian architect Adamo Boari and wasn’t finish for another 75 years.

A rare style to be found in Mexico and an impressive building to visit.

From there we headed to one of our favorite spots in Guadalajara, Hospicio Cabañas, a cultural center which houses a series of impressive mural by the famous Mexican painter José Clemente Orozco.

I’ll let the murals do the talking.

More that impressive, these is a place you could sit for hours and take in every detail and still find yourself needing more time.

Also walking around the area in and around the Hospicio Cabañas you can find and all sort of cultural and historical things that baffle the mind.

On the second day we went to Lake Chapala, this massive body of water covers 420 square miles and is the largest fresh water lake in all of the country.

On the books front I’m pleased to inform that the first book, The Crystal Shard, in my reading plan for this vacations is under my belt and the second one is well underway.

Today I’ll take it easy, for tomorrow the magical town of Tequila awaits me, and I have a feeling that things are about to get blurry.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) flirting with ideas and down time.

Finally, my long awaited holiday break is in full swing.

I plan to read a lot and equally eat a lot.

I’ll post some updates from my visits to the second largest city in Mexico.

Back in Juarez, I left the Lord of the Rings on hold, with about 400 pages to go, and plan to finish it on the first week of the year.

Right now I started with the long Saga of the dark elf ranger extraordinaire, Drizzt, a 30 book journey that was long overdue.

I’ll throw a few digital comics here and there and flirt with the idea of reading 100 books in one year, but that is a topic for after my vacation.

Happy Readings and Happy Holidays

(Y-10) go back to sleep…activate panic mode

My original intention was to start reading The Legend of Drizzt series around mid-November, but, apparently, it is already December.

Of the 33 books of this epic saga, I have read the first trilogy, that is in the chronological order of the story because it was published after the second trilogy, The Icewind Dale, of the chronology, bit confusing, I know.

The first trilogy, The Dark Elf Trilogy, follows Drizzt in the Underdark, his homeland. Since the first time I delve into the world of this rogue Dark Elf my fantasy loving self-has been longing to go back to this vast and captivating world.

So, this year, it is the main attraction.

As you can see above this is the trilogy I plan to read over the holiday break, besides some graphic novels.

But what is standing on my way you may ask.

Well, only 5 books and 19 days.

Two of them I’m currently reading, Lord of the Rings, at page 462 of 1,137 , and The Legend of Huma, at page 218 of 384.

img_20171202_073358_549-816474585.jpg

The other three are a trilogy set in the fantasy world of Dragonlance.

Dragons of a Fallen Sun, Dragons of a Vanished Moon and Dragons of a Lost Star, better known as the War of Souls trilogy, supposedly should introduce a new era of heroes to an already rich history of legendary figures.

In all these books are about 1,800 pages and with another 800 pages from the ones in progress, they amount to a gargantuan, bat-shit crazy, no sleep, highly caffeinated task, and guess what, I’m going to do it.

And I brought reinforcements, first and foremost, some good tunes, in form of three of my current favorite albums.

Prisoner by Ryan Adams and A Deeper Understanding and Lost in the Dream by The War on Drugs, all things in life are made better with music and I’m doing it old school and playing them on vinyl, I don’t know but there is something ritualistic about changing the record and feeling its weight on your hand that something digital can’t give you, sure more practical to use a streaming service for the day to day, but in this special occasions good old vinyl hits the right spot.

The second thing is some nice and dark chocolate, obviously to go along with the liters of coffee that I’m about to consume. Along with this I have a new little partner gracing my bookshelf, none other than my favorite comic-book character, Hellboy, well a cute version of him.

And lastly my faithful bullet journal to keep track of all the nuisance and crazy ideas that cross my over caffeinated and under slept mind.

Lately and unfortunately there have been a lot of red days, but with this tasks in hand I can no longer afford them.

20171204_223624-1478672418.jpg

Doing the math, I’ll have to read 2,628 pages in 19 days. I really don’t shy-away from crazy challenges.

Stay tuned for daily progress briefings and random happenings.

I almost forgot, my page total for this, the tenth year of reading is 3,425 pages, little under my goal for the end of November, but, I’ll take it.

Now back to reading, see you tomorrow.

(Y-10) the perks of having artist friends

A quick update, my bullet journal for this the tenth year has finally some cover art.

My good friend and fucking killer artist Carles Mendez, after convincing him with lots of wine, to grace me with some great original art work of one of my favorite literary character, Frankenstein monster.

Beyond happy.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) numbers or the effect of not sleeping.

Well, is safe to say that my insomnia is alive and well.

Today was a particularly early morning, 2:40 a.m. to be precise.

But I’m determined to make the best of my current situation, and believe me have tried a lot of things and it won’t succumb.

The funny thing is, in spite of sleeping an average of 4 hours a night for the past two weeks, I don’t feel tired.

So, these long nights have become a source of reading time.

With that in mind, I prepared some numbers of my progress of this the tenth year of reading.

Here it goes:

Total for (Y-10)  3,425 pages

Total pages left for (Y-10)  93,341 pages

Total for Lost in a million pages  204,380 pages

Total pages left for Lost in a million pages:   795,620 pages

Time left in original deadline of the project (a.k.a. my 50th birthday)

13 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Of the total reading of this year, almost half of it has been in the past two weeks.

That’s putting my insomnia toward something useful.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) strange days and long nights.

It has been two strange weeks.

First and foremost my reading has been really steady, in the early hours of the morning, yeah my insomnia has been really acting up, my weapon of choice has been good old comics, well digital ones so maybe the old part does not apply.

So with this, my page count has not suffered, I’m currently at 2,783 pages for the year.

On the books front, progress has been a bit slower.

Currently, I’m reading Lord of the Rings, at page 303, and The Legend of Huma, at page 96.

As you can see some progress and good days, according to my bullet journal things are looking good and steady.

Less red days and some green days, things are looking up.

Back to it, Happy Readings !!!

(Y-10) 5th year anniversary on WordPress and the 2,000 pages

On this rainy desert morning, I received a notification from the good people of WordPress that today is the fifth anniversary of my blog.

What better way to celebrate, that reaching the second milestone of this tenth year of reading, 2000 pages.

This spike in my reading is mainly due to two things: I finished reading Star Wars: Aftermath, which gave me a total of 502 pages, as far as this novel goes I found all the things Star Wars should be, a little intrigue, lots of space battles and the wit of Han Solo.

The other thing was reading the first two volumes of Autumnlands.

Written by veteran comic-book creator Kurt Busiek and beautifully illustrated by Benjamin Dewey, it’s a must for all fantasy buffs.

This put me exactly at 2,066 pages of the 96,766 projected for this year. I know, a huge chunk is still left, but, one step at a time.

Right now I’m reading two books, The Lord of the Rings and Dragonlance: The Legend of Huma, the second one on my Kindle, and to be completely honest, it’s going to take a while to adjust from printed books to digital ones.

Which brings me to the announcement that, slowly but surely, I will be migrating to digital books, and only buying the ones I considered from transcendental authors.

I have been doing it with comic-books, not the smoothest of transitions but the truth of it is that I’m running out of walls in my house. I’ll give them a good new home, promise.

So, for now I’ll focus on getting my house back to normal and fashioning a new reading nook, which consequently is still missing the key component of a new under the stairs bookcase. Hopefully it will be in place by the end of the month. Pictures pending.

Reading for this week:

Books

  • The Lord of the Rings (currently at page 141)
  • Dragonlance: the Legend of Huma (currently at page 21)

Graphics Novels

  • Ten Grand Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

Back to it.

Happy Readings!!!
