(Y-10) 74 days…a tiny burst

Had a good day of reading, I reached page 539 of The Name of the Wind, a 79 page progress and the day is not over yet.

Right now I am on sleep duty and my youngest is not showing any signs of giving in.

So, in the meantime, I’ll try to make some headway with the second volume of All-Star Batman, with the extraordinary art of Jock.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) 75 days…slow progress

I will close out my day with a double espresso, some pecan ice cream, and a plan to reach page 500 of The Name of the Wind, currently on page 460.

Today was a typical one, as far as progress is concerned, I read the last three comic books I had left of DC Comics Dark Nights and will have to wait until the rest come out.

This is because I am reading them in Spanish and are coming out on a weekly basis, there are about four left to close out the series.

I guess I’ll read something else until the rest come out, and of course make some headway with my book.

Happy Readings!!!

p.s.

I plan to have a couple of Caffeine Pilgrimage entries for next week, including a new spot recently recommended.

So, stay tuned for that.

(Y-10) The 100 day march and the accidental 400 page day.

So it begins, the final one hundred days of this year of reading are upon us, and with that my panic mode sets in automatically.

The only difference for this year is that I feel confident of my current pace and, at least one of my immediate goal is within reach.

As you can tell by this entry’s name I had a happy accident yesterday, my page total was of 426 for the day, I believe that if this was mapped out and thoroughly planned it would have failed miserably.

This grand total was spearheaded by two remarkable graphic novels, Lee Bermejo’s Batman: Noel and the always fantastic Saga, this time was the eight-volume of this award-winning book, written by the powerhouse author Brian K. Vaughan.

This gives me a giant boost and a clear pathway to reach some of the goals and regroup for the upcoming years.

With this burst of reading my total for the year went up to 19,671 total pages, only 329 pages for the first goal and 14,063 pages for the minimal total I intend to have my October.

As the clock winds down on this year, I will try to complete something that past years have somehow eluded me, to write at least one daily post of this last effort to close out the year on a high note.

For today I will attempt to replicate yesterday’s success, but today I will explore a galaxy far, far away in the company of a couple of Scoundrels and a Lord of the Sith, this also of course with a few outings thru the perilous paths of the Forgotten Realms accompanied by rogue Drow Drizzt Do’Urden.

If everything goes as planned, tomorrow a celebratory pizza and wine will be a top priority and a quick and rambling post to spread some of my joy.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) closer and closer

Every day I inch closer to my 20,000-page goal.

So, I start the third day of this month with a total of 19,221 pages, just 779 pages to reach one of the high peaks of this year of reading.

Although my original goal coming into this year was 96,766 pages, a monumental task, I have become content with the idea of at least reading the total page count of the last two years combined, that is 33,734 total pages.

And that has become my immediate goal, but of course, I am shooting for at least in the 40,000-page realm, and how you may ask I will achieve this, well by reading of course.

These past three days have been quite productive, I finished a bunch of Batman: Detective Comics single issues and the second volume compiling the story arc of The Syndicate of Victims of this same title, these are of the new DC Comics storyline Rebirth, a significant reboot of all their main characters.

I should add that officially Batwoman is becoming one of my favorites characters of the Batman family, she is a total badass.

The next batch of comics on my to-read pile is, from the same reboot of The Batman, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, I have the two first story arcs, missed in some single issues and a trade paperback.

I am working slowly back to catch-up with the latest story timeline of DC Comics.

I expect to be really close to my 20,000-page goal by this weekend, all of this I considered it a dress rehearsal for the kick-ass readathon coming up shortly.

Getting into reading shape, now, back to it.

(Y-10) and so it begins…

I start the month of July with a total of 18,373 pages and the whole month to chase those elusive 20,000 pages.

To start off this month-long reading session, I can not think of a better way than to dive right into the latest installment of Batman: Detective Comics, I have fallen so behind with DC Comics current timeline, but there is no better time to catch up with it.

And to send June off in style, yesterday, along with the local art museum, we organized a walk through the ever-changing landscape of the urban context in our fair city.

The particularity of this place is that you can see how slowly it has transformed from cotton fields to strip malls.

Historically, this place was the beginning point of the agricultural area of our city, it will follow the Rio Bravo for approximately 37 miles covered in fields and acequias were not only the agrarian activity thrived but also leisure activities that all people of my age fondly remember.

The purpose of this walking experiences is to rescue some of this history and preserve the memories of this places, through photography, before they vanish beneath a thick layer of asphalt.

Well, I’ll get back to my reading and to enjoy these vacation period.

(Y-10) it was not Sunday either.

My plan to have a 500-page day failed miserably, again.

On Sunday, the day I thought was going to be the day, the total of pages was 154, not so bad, but not quite my goal.

But looking on the bright side of things, I made some headway with The Orc King and finished DC Comics/Dark Horse Comics: Justice League, this weird cross-over graphic novel has some memorable stories, like Superman and The Predator.

And one gem, I am of course talking about the Batman/Hellboy/Starman crossover, illustrated in all its glory by comic book legend Mike Mignola.

Tomorrow I’ll post an update on the total for the year and my reading is progressing.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) time to read

This weekend I’m going to indulge with some heavy reading and gardening.

I have been quite busy these past few weeks, and finally, there is some time to catch my breath and relax.

As always I have big plans, the only difference, at least for this weekend, is that it involves some physical work.

But I’ll start with the mental work.

On the book front, I’m up and running the with the first book of The Hunter’s Blade Trilogy, part of The Legend of Drizzt saga, currently, I’m on page 135, and the primary goal is to finish it by Sunday afternoon.

On the graphic novel front, three astounding books from some of the most legendary writers and artist in the comic book history.

img_20180525_161723_051-1651236893.jpg

First off, Dark Knight Returns The Last Crusade, written by not one but two legendary powerhouses, Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello and illustrated but non-other that John Romita Jr. It seems like a short story, short but sweet.

Second off, legendary run of Swamp Thing by comic book legend Mr. Alan Moore, accompanied by the psychedelic art of Stephen Bissette.

And finally, The Books of Magic by my favorite writer Neil Gaiman and John Bolton, lending his dark and gritty art to complete a remarkable story.

Concerning my little desert oasis, I have already prep the area to work in, some new flower pots, some new decorative stones, and a whole facelift to be ready for “reading outside season.”

And to start off this weekend with a sonic delight, the new Arctic Monkeys album.

Well, I’m off to read.

(Y-10) The Drought is over

Today marks the end of a genuinely shitty streak of not finishing anything.

No Books.

No Graphic Novels.

No Comics.

Nothing.

But luckily there will always be The Dark Knight to save my sorry ass.

The last registered book was The Servant of the Shard, on April 7.

20 long days

The third volume of Batman, The Death of the Family, by the impressive creative team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, came to put an end to my prolonged drought, and to top it off, it marks the return of The Joker to Gotham.

Exquisitely done, you can feel tense all throughout the book.

And to keep this machine rolling, yesterday, I finished the fifteen book of The Legend of Drizzt saga, The Promise of the Witch-King, although the legendary drow ranger does not make an appearance, his two main antagonists, Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri, can carry the story without a flinch.

For now, I’ll focus on the sixteen book of the saga mentioned above, Road of the Patriarch and a graphic novel. Punk Rock Jesus by Sean Murphy.

Keep on going, keep on reaching for that ultimate goal, although it seems unobtainable, I’ll just keep pushing myself.

Some quick number for this the tenth year of my crazy project.

  • 15 books read.
  • 13,551 total pages.
  • 83,215 pages to go.
  • 162 days left in the year of reading.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) Painfully lagging

These past few days have been really killer for my progress.

I need to regroup and march on with my reading goals.

I’ll schedule my time to jump between the massive pile of digital and printed Graphic Novels and my enormous pile of books to read.

So, one thing at a time, first I’ll power through Batman Vol. 3: Death of the Family

And then focus on my roaming thru Faerûn with Drizzt and company.

Luckily I’ll have some new sonic companions, three to be exact, but for tonight I will be in good company with The Boss himself.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) The Dark Knight and coffee.

Well, my plan to read the next two trilogies of the Legend of Drizzt saga has not gone as planned.

I’m still working on the final book of the story arc of the Paths of Darkness, The Sea of Swords, and then start with the first book of the Sellswords Trilogy.

Being optimistic I will most likely have time to read one trilogy, this of course was all caused by a nosy citizen of Gotham, in his Snyder-Capullo rendition.

I’m about 40 pages from finishing the second volume of this run, The City of Owls, and I’ll dive right into the third volume.

And of course, keep chipping away at my book.

Finally, the bought a couple of new books, one arrived yesterday, The Halloween Tree, written by the genius author Ray Bradbury and illustrated by the extraordinary Gris Grimly, one of my personal favorites, the other book I’ll keep it a mystery until it arrives

Simply amazing, I think I’ll leave on my shelf until Halloween to better enjoy it.

Happy Readings!!!
