(Y-11) just keep flowing (day 10 of 31)

Yesterday was another good day, this streak just keeps getting momentum.

My total yesterday was 175 pages.

Today, I had a significant advance with Gardens of the Moon, currently on page 403 of 627.

I have the goal to start the second book of the series, Deadhouse Gates, by this weekend.

So, the attack plan for tonight, chip away some pages from Gardens of the Moon and try to finish The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords manga.

Now back to it, for the night is dark and full of reading.

(Y-11) Another great day of reading (Day 9 of 31)

Yesterday was another great one.

The total, although not the 300 pages I was expecting, was over the minimum average for the day, and honestly, 200 pages are no easy thing to achieve.

The other important thing to mention is that I surpassed the 4,000-page mark.

4,318 to be precise.

This is shaping up to be one great season for my reading.

Today’s plan is pretty straightforward, try to advance with Gardens of, the Moon, currently on page 361 of 627

Read the last number of the fantastic Batman: White Knight.

20181209_200212-983869316.jpg

And read some of the last manga I have of The Legend of Zelda, The Four Swords.

20181209_1810502126332870.jpg

Again I am aiming for a 300 page-day, but with a clear purpose of clearing the minimum average for the day and of course have as much fun as possible.

Well now back to reading until it is time to go in and see Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald, yeah I know it has been showing for a while, but I haven’t had the time to go an see it,

Let’s see how it holds up.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Monstruos Day (day 8 of 31)

Yesterday was a sensational day for my reading.

The total for yesterday’s reading session was a whopping 338 pages.

This was thanks to finishing reading the first volume of Spawn Origins, reading the first part of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap/Phantom Hourglass and a bit of headway with Gardens of the Moon, currently on page 351 of 627.

The plan for today is to finish The Phantom Hourglass part of The Legend of Zelda, read some more from the first volume of The Malazan Book of Fallen.

Also, I’ll try start to read the second volume of Spawn Origins, for this one is kind of unique because on this volume there are collected some issues written by three comic book legends, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, and Neil Gaiman, that only makes it extra special.

screenshot_20181208-2050171488540284.jpg

My primary goal is to hit the 300-page mark for the three days of the weekend, one down two to go.

So now let’s see how my numbers are.

  • Total pages for (Y-11) : 3,929 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve first milestone (10,000 pages): 6,071 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve the main goal of the year (53,000 pages): 49,071 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the second-best year of reading (32,001 pages): 28,072 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the best year of reading (47,705 pages): 43,776 pages.

I am just a little step to reach 4,000 pages for the year, I can almost savor it.

In other number related news, my total for the entire project is slowly, but surely, growing.

And it is currently at 236,796 pages, just 13,204 pages are between me and that first quarter of a million pages read.

So, in the wake of this new information, and taking into account my crazy personality, my new obsession for this year will be to chip away that those pages left to reach the first 1/4 of my goal.

Naturally, I will integrate this new numbers into my daily countdown.

For now, I’ll get back to reading.

(Y-11) flowing into the weekend (day 7 of 31)

Just started the weekend in the best manner I can think of, reading on a rainy day sipping on a large cup of coffee.

Let me start off with the update of the daily reading challenge, from which I am glad to inform that it was victorious again, this time around the total pages for yesterday was 168.

My plans for this weekend of reading are as follow, make some headway with the Gardens of the Moon, currently on page 346 of 627, read the two latest volumes of the manga series The Legend of Zelda.

Already started with Minish Cap/Phantom Hourglass

Finally, I am going back to my roots and read the new collections of the now classic Spawn series by legendary writer/artist Todd McFarlane.

This was some of the first comics that I collected, and taking advantage that some of the collected editions are available on Kindle Unlimited, well, it is throwback time.

In other news, I finished Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, and with this, I am inching closer to the 4,000-page mark.

3,769 pages to be precise.

Here I leave you with some images of the closing tale of Doctor Strange Collection, with some fantastic art by P. Craig Russell.

Another cool thing that happened, and being a sucker for statistics, is that Spotify sends me an email detailing my year of listening.

And apparently I spent 26,496 minutes, that is 441 hours of enjoying some sweet groves.

The song that kicked off this year was Real Love Baby by Father John Misty, and the first band I discovered was Lo Moon, if you have not listened to neither, do yourself a favor and do so immediately.

And lastly, the band that I listen to the most was, drum roll please, Arctic Monkeys, with a total of 52 hours, mostly enjoying their new album Tranquillity Base: Hotel & Casino.

I wonder what new bands are waiting for me on the never-ending digital musical landscape, well, I have a whole year to find out.

Now back to reading.

(Y-11) keep the flow going( day 6 of 31)

Right now I am at the final stretch of Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, by my estimation it should be done by tonight.

On the book front, I had a bit of progress in the morning and I will try to read a bit more to close out the night. Currently on page 334 of 627.

And finally, concerning my goal for this month, I am glad to inform that once again the goal was met, 158 pages for yesterday’s session.

I have a bit of the night still left, let’s make the best of it.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Still in the flow (Day 5 of 31)

Yesterday was another great of reading, and once again, I hit the page goal.

This time the total was 173 pages, the pace is going up.

This is a great way to start my vacation period with a bang, and hopefully, I will meet my goal by the time January rolls around.

Although I am a little behind schedule, currently I have 3,287 pages, and according to my calculations I should have approximately 7,738 pages at this point of the year, this is of course to reach my coveted 53,000 pages of total reading for this year.

That puts me 32 days behind schedule.

But have no fear for this vacation period will help me shorten the distance.

Now to talk about happier things, yesterday I finished the third volume of Mark Millar’s seminal comic book series, Kick-Ass, what a beautiful, hyperviolent thrill ride this series has been.

If your only frame of reference is the movie, let me tell you, that is the light version of the story, so, go out and buy whatever you can get your hands on of this great series and get ready for a ride not fit for the weak hearted.

20181205_063218-953665971.jpg

Also, I had a great reading session this morning of the first book of The Malazan Book of the Fallen series, The Garden of Moon, in which I currently stand on page 330 of 627. I plan to read this and the second book of the series, Deadhouse Gates, before the end of the year.

And finally, I am lining up some reading material for the weekend, this of course with the goal of gaining some lost ground and getting ever closer to achieving what I set out to do this year, in my plans of reading for the upcoming weekend I have enlisted the help of a triple threat of fun.

The latest installments, well at least recently published in Spanish, of the Legend of Zelda manga series, The Minish Cap/Phantom Hourglass, and Four Swords, volumes 4 and 5, respectively.

20181205_201004-269893859.jpg

And to sickly top things off, the first volume of compiled debauchery in its purest form, I am of course talking about the masterpiece written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by the great Steve Dillon.

20181205_2009341823291617.jpg

This is one of the works of the middle of the ’90s that came and reshaped what the comic book medium could be and what time of stories could be told, not just your run of the mill superheroes stories but something with more depth and to explore human nature from a different perspective.

I should enjoy re-reading this fantastic series.

The few days ahead seem to be destined to be quite thrilling, I shall inform you, tomorrow of course, of my latest shenanigans.

But for today it is back to the salt mines for me.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Go with the flow (day 4 of 31)

As the fourth day of December nears its end, I am glad to announce that my streak is alive and well.

As mentioned in the last post this December, I plan to read at least the minimum average for the day of reading, that is 146 pages to read 53,000 total pages for this year of reading.

So far the days have fare like this:

  • December 1st– 146 pages
  • December 2nd-146 pages
  • December 3rd-158 pages

And so far the 4th day has had a pretty decent session of The Gardens of the Moon, and it will continue with Kick-Ass Volume 3 and Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, in which, I just enter a story-arc written by one of my favorite authors, Warren Ellis.

Now back to Genabackis to face down a horde of treacherous Mages.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) December plans

I have big plans for this the last month of 2018.

To star off I plan to write entries on this blog at least once a day, 31 days of fun.

And to top it off, I have the goal to read the minimal average per day at least for this whole month, that is 146 daily pages.

If all goes well, I could walk out of December with approximately 7,000 total pages.

The first two days have gone according to plan.

Must grab this momentum and roll with it.

Back to reading.

So far I have read 26 of 100 books, and my total of pages is 11,048 of the 53,459 pages all of these books sum up.

For the Christmas break I have big plans, first is to read a couple of books from The Malazan Book of the Fallen and to finish Mark Lawrence’s Broken Empire series.

In other news, yesterday I reached another milestone of this year of reading, a total of 3,000 pages.

As I planned for yesterday, I read a couple of issues from the newly published Sandman Universe spin-off series, on this journey I was in good company, firstly by great magician Tim Hunter and secondly by the prince of Darkness himself, the morning star, Lucifer.

These are two great books, and you should check them out, but for my taste, I was more intrigued by the Lucifer series.

I am still a little behind schedule with my reading but giving the circumstances I have achieved more than expected.

For today, I plan to work on The Gardens of the Moon for a little bit, and also to read a graphic novel I purchased a while back, Un samurái ve el amanecer en Acapulco, by Mexican writer Álvaro Enrigue and Spanish illustrator Sonia Pulido.

Well now, back to reading.

(Y-11)Breathing a little easier

Just finishing with my work for the semester at my Master’s Degree and I can breathe a little bit easier.

I’ll take a few days to unwind and read a little bit.

I have plans to reach 3,000 pages by tomorrow.

So now let’s see how my numbers are.

  • Total pages for (Y-11) : 2,664 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve first milestone (10,000 pages): 7,336 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve the main goal of the year (53,000 pages): 50,336 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the second-best year of reading (32,001 pages): 29,337 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the best year of reading (47,705 pages): 45,041 pages.

I have some work to do, but in order to achieve this, I have some things line up.

Firstly, I will try to finish the first volume of the graphic adaption of my favorite novel, American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

Secondly, the seventh issue of the fantastic series Batman: White Knight by writer/artist Sean Murphy.

And finally, the first issues of the expanded Sandman Universe series, this time is the turn of The Books of Magic and Lucifer, it is always exciting to dive into this massive universe that made me fall in love with comic books.

And in between all of this, I’ll try to make some headway with The Gardens of the Moon, got to keep the epicness blowing.

I know, lots of reading, but finally a little time to read.

Back to it.
