Another solid day

Yesterday was another great day for my reading.

My total was 278 pages, close to those coveted 300 I mention on yesterday’s post, for the Metal Swarm,my total was 103, that leaves 138 pages to finish and until Sunday to get there, those are good odds.

But my favorite thing is that only 140 pages are left to reach this week’s goal, my pace is only getting better.

For today’s reading, I’ll try to finish my current book and graphic novel, Metal Swarm and X-men Epic Collection: Mutant Genesis, respectively, it’s great to see Jim Lee’s work on the mutants.

Let’s go get those 350 pages.

Off to read.

A very productive day

Yesterday was all I could ask for reading day.

I met both of my goals, read over 600 total pages and read the double of the quota of the Metal Swarm, that would be 120 pages.

Today lets hope wouldn’t be any different, I’ll set the bar of total pages to a modest 300 or more, and for the book at least get to page 460, that’s a total of 79 pages for the day.

Off to read.

More days like this

This day has been one of those that breaks the norms, and gives mr a much needed boost to face what lies ahead straight on.

I still have some hours left of reading in the day, thanks to my midafternoon power nap and the shot of caffeine that’s about to finish brewing.

I’ll grab the momentum, my total for the day is currently 481 pages, including 76 pages of Metal Swarm, the quota for today was 60

To spice things up my goal is to reach 600 pages and double the quota of my book, that will mean that I have 19 and 44 pages respectively to reach them.

To top off the day I found the perfect sci-fi driven prog-rock soundtrack for the journey.

Numbers: July 12,2021

Is Monday again and that can only mean my weekly update.

And what an amazing week it was, last week book, Of Fire and Night, was finish by Friday, this week’s book, Metal Swarm, which I suppose to start today is already on page 187, everything is falling into place, with a bit of breathing room each week to go get those goals.

Now let’s get down to business, my current total is 6,709 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, that’s 1,379 more than last week, my projected total for each week is 1,246, if each week I have a surplus, even the 133 pages of this week, this will add-up at the long and not only will I get the goal of the year, but I’ll contribute to making the next year total a little less, as I always say, one page at a time. The current projection for the total at the end of the year stay pretty much as last week number, 61,499 pages, still just below the target but getting closer.

My reading schedule it’s right on the money , I’am 1 day ahead on my reading, with some intense reading I would like to get it at least 5 days ahead of schedule.

Once again the current pace make the biggest impact on the broader picture, each and every week my numbers show the kind of momentum I expect, I keep a particular inquisitive eye on the number of pages I’m going to have to read on the second part of my journey, and for the first time it is finally under 2,000 pages, if only barely with 1,994 pages per week with an daily average of 285 pages, quite the titanic endeavor but I know that is doable.

On what concerns my first 500,000 pages, I have only 142,714 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is August 17, 2026, that’s 16 days sooner than last week, still my sights are pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, again, my goal is to have 3,000 days to read the other half, giving me an approximate daily average to read of 170 pages, one can hope and dream.

Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight, the projections puts it 8,585 days away, a 37 day gain from the last week, making the end date is June 26, 2044, that’s 4,770 days after the original plan, 30 days less that the last projection, this kind of gigantic leaps give me new breath to keep on pushing to reach that coveted goal. For me this numbers are of particularly importance, there are the endgame of these whole deal, and until the numbers of days behind are in red, I will not rest.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back, here are the numbers that officially kick-off the new year of reading:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 142,714 pages
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,385 days
  • Days behind schedule: 4,770 days

I’ll keep my promise to each Monday update my numbers, and hopefully from now on they will be full of great leaps and great books.

Late night reading

After a late afternoon power nap, I feel really refreshed, hence the late hour of this post.

I’m glad to inform that this week’s reading goal has been achieved, my current total is 1,248 of the 1,246 pages projected for the week, and with all of Sunday ahead of me, this is hitting the strides I was hoping for.

On the book front, which I was supposed to start next Monday, the sixth volume of the Saga of the Seven Suns, Metal Swarm, just reached page 110 with maybe a couple of chapters before I called it a night.

I predict that this Monday’s Numbers report will be a pretty awesome one.

5 down, 47 to go

I just finish the fifth volume of the Saga of the Seven Suns, Of Fire and Night, and I was wondering, with only a few chapters left, how there’s still two more books.

It would seem that this clash between humanity and this elemental forces scattered thru the universe was coming to it’s climatic, and with the last paragraph, an old player comes swarming back to reclaim the universe.

Didn’t see that coming, well played Mr. Anderson, well played indeed.

And as any reader worth its salt, I prepared a fresh batch of coffee and started the sixth volume, Metal Swarm.

That throws my plans for an early bedtime out the window.

I’m really happy with my reading pace, it helps a lot to be devouring such amazing books, thanks to this I have 9 days to read 622 pages, with sights on finish the whole saga by Wednesday, but let us not get ahead of ourselves.

Participation trophy

My grand plans to finish the fifth volume of the Saga of the Seven Suns, and start the sixth one bright and early in the morning, failed miserably.

Don’t get me wrong, I am still ahead of schedule, currently on page 508 of 645, and according to my Kindle, there are 2 hours 31 minutes left on the book, and being Sunday the deadline, I’m in good shape.

Let’s see how much I can chip away today, it would be good to finish the day with under 1 hour to go.

Not making any promises.

Numbers: July 5, 2021

I am determined not to let Monday’s go without posting how my reading week went, and let me tell you that I am really excited with this week’s result.

There’s finally a sense of rhythm in my progress, I have placed little goals thru-out the days so that the task at hand doesn’t feel monumental, more like little towards a bigger goal at the end of the day, well, this week it payed off tremendously.

Now let’s get down to business, my current total is 5,330 of the 64,952 pages of this year’s goal, that’s 2,054 more than last week, and the current projection for the total at the end of the year made a substantial leap from last week number and now sits at 61,938 pages, this not only improved more than 13,098 pages from last week, but it also puts a little under my goal of the year.

My reading schedule it’s right on the money , I’am 1 day ahead on my reading, its no surprise since I finish the fourth volume of the Saga of the Seven Suns, Scattered Suns, and started really early with the fifth volume, Of Fire and Night, and I am already on page 241 of 645, how early you may ask, my schedule marked the beginning of this volume for today, this is exactly how things should be moving along.

For this week I have finally achieved balance from what was supposed to be my total at the end of week four, for this week I have only to read the 178 pages total for each day, that’s 1,246 total pages by the end of the week, to keep my reading on track, but I’ll be aiming to average above 200 daily page to buy me some room in case of future lazy weeks.

My favorite thing about the current pace is how it reflects on some aspects of the broader picture, each and every week my numbers show the kind of momentum I expect, but what happen with the projections for reaching the golden prize was a pleasant surprise.

On what concerns my first 500,000 pages, I have only 144,093 pages left, and the new date of reaching that goal is September 1, 2026, that’s 19 days sooner than last week, still my sights are pointed at March 20, 2023 as the desired date to reach the first half of the challenge, this is thinking of having at least 3,000 days to read the other half, giving me an approximate daily average to read of 170 pages, close to my current daily average, which is challenging but doable.

Now for the golden prize of 1,000,000 pages, to my delight the projections puts it 8,422 days away, a 64 day gain from the last week, making the end date is July 26, 2044, that’s 4,800 days after the original plan, 58 days less that the last projection, this kind of gigantic leaps give me new breath to keep on pushing to reach that coveted goal, and as I said last week, the proximity of the calculations made it seem as a step back on my progress, good thing I didn’t panic.

To summary the numbers from my Journey Back, here are the numbers that officially kick-off the new year of reading:

  • Pages to reach 500,000: 144,093 pages
  • Days to reach 1,000,000: 8,422 days
  • Days behind schedule: 4,800 days

I’ll make a new tradition for the always dreaded Monday, and for me at least they will hopefully become day of great joy, full of books and caffeine.

Off to read.

Lazy Sunday and the 210 pages

As with every Sunday, the day will be devoted to reading, drinking coffee, and eating ramen.

I am just 210 pages away from getting this year back on track, so my plan is to chip away at the fifth volume of the Saga of the Seven, Of Fire and Night, on page 140, and right on schedule to finish it, probably on Wednesday.

I must say, with no premeditation, this week has become the Jeff Lemire extravaganza.

I read the first two volumes of his Dark Horse series The Black Hammer, a very pulpy feeling super heroes comic book, and a special volume of one of the super villain of this amazing universe, Sherlock Frankenstein, yeah, that’s right, an unlikely combination that Mr. Lemire somehow makes it work.

The only thing I can say about this series is that how the hell it took me so long to read, especially because of the creator and it’s right in the neighborhood of one of my favorite comic book teams, the B.P.R.D.

To close out this week of reading I’ll continue with another comic book written by Jeff Lemire, The Extraordinary X-men, illustrated by the amazing Humberto Ramos.

On a side note, I recommend you to read Gideon Falls and The Underwater Welder, both by Jeff Lemire, and some of the best comic books I have read in quite awhile.

Let’s go get those pages.
