Last night was one of those full of insomniac energy. Thanks to that I finally finish reading A Dance with Dragons, after 118 days.

This gave me a total of 10,781 pages for this year and only 44,104 pages to go and 21 books to finish. A walk in the park.

With that in mind, I dive right into the next book, Apocalipsis ( the Spanish version of The Stand) by Stephen King.

Along with Jerusalem by Alan Moore and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, are the only massive books, each over 1,000 pages long, left in this year reading list.

With roughly 6 months to go on my reading year, I feel focus and determined to complete the task at hand.

Caffeine don’t fail me now.

I’m on the final stretch of A Dance with Dragons, my plan is to finish it by Thursday night, and jump right in into my next big book, The Stand by Stephen King.

The last two nights have been spent in my favorite reading spot, just hacking away at this terrific book.

To be honest, I have been procrastinating with my reading, sometimes you need to recharge, so with that in mind, this weekend was just what I needed.

What better to energize than wine and art.

First I went to the Art Museum of my fair city, Ciudad Juárez, and was blown away with the fascinating collection of artist Carla Rippey, if you live in Juarez and even if you don’t you should go and visit it.

And to finish the day some wine, the first “Festival del Vino Paso del Norte” , in hope that is only the beginning of many more years.

I bought some great wine from producers in my home state, Chihuahua.

Well with my batteries charge and ready to take on the next half of this year of reading, that present some gargantuan task.

I decided to dive right into Dance with Dragons, the latest book of the massive saga A Song of Fire and Ice.

In all it’s 1’040 pages of glory, as with other book of this scope I plan to take it slow and cherish every page. Because truly “Winter is Coming”.

This week has been fill with a lot of music, one of my greatest pleasures and when combined with a good book and a bold cup of coffee, one of life’s greatest pleasure.

Also in my ever going task of reading my head off there is time to endulge myself with some new music.

It’s with a little sorrow that I turn on Mr. Bowie’s music and to be honest it’s bittersweet, such an amazing send off with his last album, Blackstar, truly a great lost, but a least his artistry  will prevail for many generations. I look forward when someday in the future, hopefully, I’ll sit down with my kids and listen to this and other great artist with an enormous grin .

For now I’ll indulge in some quiet reading and hopefully soon there will be time for a quick recap of my progress.

Time is flying, we are a mere 27 days to go and 2016 is done.

For me this has been a year of great change and great inspiration.

Fortunately it seems that my change of scenery has done marvels for my mood and for my eagerness to finish my goals.

As always I could be more advanced with my reading but this new year has been a really productive one.

So for a quick recap.

On the book front I have finish what it was another masterpiece by the late great Carlos Fuentes, this time it was the turn of El Naranjo, a collection of 5 short stories narrated by one of the son of conquistador Hernan Cortez and his turncoat lover/translator the infamous Malinche, what I loved about the book is that it depicts the historical figures as mere human thrown into some really shitty situations that test their willingness to survive. pick-up this book you won’t regret it.

Also I keep working on Frankenstein and the tragically beautiful book by Nobel Laureaute Alice Munro, La vida de las mujeres. 

On the graphic novel/comic front there has also been some development.

For starters I finish reading Sandman: Overture and let me tell you it was kind of bittersweet, in the one hand I loved the story and the artwork simply brilliant, J.H. Williams III is something special, on the other hand I can come to the idea that it was the final story about the endless that Neil Gaiman will ever write, that thought pains me deeply.

The other graphic novels that I finished were Trees by Warren Ellis, a fantastic twist on the whole invaders from outer space that only Mr. Ellis could have written. The second one was a Darth  Maul: Death Sentence, a quick and fun adventure to read on a lazy Sunday. Also I started working on another Darth Maul graphic novel, Son of Dathomir, the only thing I have to say is Mandalorians.

I finally finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and now is on to a classic, Frankenstein.

In the last 4 of  5 years I have read this magnificent book and it has become kind of a ritual to start reading it in or around Halloween and let me tell each time is different.

This year version in beautifully illustrated by Lynd Ward.

I know what great and emotional book is ahead of me.
