(Y-12) Reading, more reading, and an extra day

I know, I know.

I have been away for close to two weeks, but it is safe to say that those days are over.

Although these last days have been really productive.

Including the extra day in February, because of 2020 being a leap year.

First of all, I finished some amazing graphic novels.

The first was the seminal work by legendary writer/illustrator Will Eisner, yeah the same who has the most prestigious award in the comic book industry.

This book comprised of three of his graphic novels set in the fictitious New York avenue Dropsie.

From different perspectives, different time periods, and different racial realities, this is one work all of graphic novel lovers must have in his library.

The next series I started and was Haunt by Robert Kirkman, of Walking Dead fame, illustrated by one of my first favorite artists, and comic book legend, Todd McFarlane.

This story remained me so much of McFarlane’s most famous creation, Spawn, this not as a bad thing, more like an exploration of the use of this character of his supernatural abilities as a special agent, and making this a conscious decision, unlike Spawn, who is thrown into a celestial conflict as a mere pawn.

Give it a chance, these are two amazing creators having some fun.

The first order of business for this week of reading is to continue with my current book, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, the first volume of the marvelous, and the really vast world of Dragonlance.

I have the first trilogy on deck, this is Chronicles storyline, after that, I’ll continue with the adventures of drow elf Drizzt, only to come back to read Dragonlance’s Legends Trilogy, Second Generation, and Dragons of Summer Flame novels to close out the books I have waiting on my shelf.

Parallel to this, and as I always do, I will be reading some graphic novels.

Off my shelves, I will be reading a classic Batman storyline, Knightfall.

Bane breaks the Bat.

This particular edition is new reprints in Spanish comprised of three oversized trade paperbacks of the entire storyline.

From my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I will pick up from where I left off, about 12 years ago, with the critically acclaimed series The Walking Dead.

I have three volumes on deck, from 8 to 10 of the 32 that this long-running series has available.

I have some really good things line up.

Now let’s talk about my numbers.

This year of reading has been amazing.

My total for year twelve is 18,861 pages.

I am 24 days ahead of my reading schedule, this on the tail end of my best month of reading, February with a total of 5,249 net pages, and a perfect month, with all of the 29 days of reading with 115 pages or more.

Also, I am 941 pages to reach 300,000, my goal is to reach it before next weekend.

My focus now is to get my projected dates to reach the two major milestones of this project, reaching 500,000 and 1,000,000 pages.

Right now, according to my projections, I will reach the first 500,000 on the 28 of October 2027, that’s about 4 years later that I would like to.

Of course, this number has been coming down, and my current goal is to reach this first leg of the journey by March 20 of 2023.

In the case of the ultimate goal, my projections place me reaching 1,000,000 on November 17, 2046, that would mean that I will be 65 years old.

15 years too late.

With my current pace, I have great faith that when I am celebrating my 50th birthday, and will also be sitting in a beautiful library somewhere in the Pacific coastline of the United States, reading about some American deities as told my a crazy genius, English man.

But that is a story for another time.

I am off to read.

(Y-12) another achievement unlock

This is shaping up to be an amazing year of reading.

I’m proud to say that my reading schedule is being fulfilled splendidly, in fact, I am 18 days ahead on my reading.

This weekend was really productive, I read the first five volumes of the amazing comic book series Locke & Key, and also binge the first season of the Netflix series.

Also, I had two 300-page days.

And on the heels of that, today I reached 250 hours of reading using the Bookly app.

I’ll keep pushing, and reading my ass off.

Off to read.

(Y-12) The key to everything

I have been absent for more than a week, but I can assure you that I have spent it reading intensively.

I am just about to reach the 16,000-page mark for this year of reading, and I am also about 15 days ahead of schedule.

This passed week has been filled with all types of reading, from the Norse gods, to mutants, a reinterpretation of Frankenstein’s monster, and even a graphic history of Hip Hop.

For this weekend, I’ll commit to reading the first 5 volumes of the amazing series Locke & Key by Joe Hill, and of course binge the whole Netflix series.

For now, I am off to read.

(Y-12) Midway day

Today is a joyful one.

This is because today I have arrived at the very middle of my reading journey.

I wish it would also be the day I was celebrating 500,000 pages read, but that is not the case.

I started this journey on October 9 of 2008, and the finishing date, to read 1,000,000 pages, was on June 6 of 2031, my 50th birthday.

So, today marks 4,138 days of reading.

In that time, I have read 294,713 pages, this along books, comic books, graphic novels, and magazines, which add-up 3318 items.

There are still 4,138 days ahead of me.

For now, I am off to read.

(Y-12) The mighty and powerful Nick Cave

I have always found solace in music.

Right now, I have a special connection with Nick Cave.

It has an incredible depth and complexity to his lyrics.

I am obsessed with his latest release, Ghosteen.

Particularly one song has latch on to my heart and mind, Bright Horses.

“Oh, oh, oh, well, this world is plain to see
It don’t mean we can’t believe in something, and anyway
My baby’s coming back now on the next train
I can hear the whistle blowing, I can hear the mighty roar
I can hear the horses prancing in the pastures of the Lord
Oh the train is coming, and I’m standing here to see
And it’s bringing my baby right back to me
Well there are some things too hard to explain
But my baby’s coming home now, on the 5:30 train”

-Bright Horses, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Simply beautiful.

(Y-12) Still in one piece

It has been an emotionally rough week.

I am still coping with the loss on my dear mother, it has been exactly a month from her untimely departure, and on the heels of this, the fresh memory of my beloved father’s passing only two years earlier.

I can safely say that is has been a rough couple of years.

This has given me fuel to reignite my internal fire and go after what makes me feel whole.

But first I must mourn their passing, I must face a world without their guidance and love.

I have a lot of positive things in my life, my amazing partner in crime, with whom I have formed an amazing family, inspiring friends who push and encourage all my craziness, and of course this life-long project that gives me so much satisfaction.

I have come to realize that I haven’t permitted myself to feel angry or sad about my loss.

That time has come.

I must cry.

I must mourn.

But more importantly, I must honor what they taught me and go out and find happiness.

With that in mind, I shall go and chase those goals.

Go and chase all that knowledge hidden away in my precious books, and share that life-affirming feeling with all of you.

I’ll be back really soon, for now, I am off to read.

And to think about my mom and dad walking eternally, hand in hand, in their beautiful purple desert.

(Y-12) results of my week long readathon

This passed week was spent participating in the first Bookly readathon, you could either read for 20 hours or read 2020 pages.

I chose the latter.

It was a pretty productive, even though I could not reach the goal, I made some really good progress.

The other cool thing is that I finished the fifth book of the thrilling Star Wars series, New Jedi Order, now, all out war with the Yuuzhan Vong, slowly they are starting to gain ground, and a corridor to the Core Planets.

Now, I’ll turn my attention to the reimagining of two of my favorite mythologies, Mexican and Nordic.

I started off with Mr. Bowles book, which is published by Cinco Punto Press, an amazing local book editors of our sister city of El Paso, Texas.

Also, I’ll keep on adventuring on the mythical land of Azeroth, for this occasion I will be reading a trilogy by Richard A. Knaak, The Sunwell Trilogy.

For now, I am off to read, and to prepare a new post of my total progress.

(Y-12) In today’s reading

I am hoping to close down the gap left from yesterday’s reading, and reach at least 580 pages of total reading for the Bookly marathon.

In order to do this I’ll ask the help me of a very old friend, and one of the first series that got me obsessed with comic books, John Constantine.

Those are volumes 2, 3, and 4 of the original Vertigo series, written by the amazing Jamie Delano.

The second volume I finished yesterday, and right now I’m working on the third one, following a nomadic stretch of the infamous sorcerer of Liverpool,

I am off to read.
