(Y-9) and then….there were only 100 days left

I’m entering the final stretch of this ninth year of reading, and let me tell you it has been quite interesting.

In the reading department, well let’s say that there is a whole lot of room to grow.

I believe that when I have about 50 days to go, I’ll make an assessment of the situation for the tenth year.

Based on my projections,  and if I have the intention of reading my three-year goal, 130,500 pages, I’ll have an 85,000 + year ahead of me.

Right now I have 13,679 pages for the year and trying to finish a behemoth of a book, Apocalipsis by Stephen King.

After that, there are only two big books left to read, plus about fifteen medium size books.

A walk in the park.

Long blissful nights ahead of me.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) as the seasons roll on by ….

In this hot day, I decided to put all of my efforts to finish the two current books I’m working on, Sorgo Rojo by Mo Yan and Apocalipsis by Stephen King.

My total reading for this year is  13,146 pages and with 119 days to go, I’m aiming to reach at least 33,000. This will leave me under 97,000 pages for  (Y-10) to reach my 3 years goal of 130,500 pages.

Not a small task, but one I will be carefully planning for it in the coming months.

For now, I’ll take it one page at a time.

Happy Readings !!!

(Y-9) finally….. 2017

I have been chasing this year like a desperate beast.

And finally today I reached 12,000 pages, this number should have been reached, according to my projections, on January 1st, 2017.

My momentum has picked up and as of now, I’m 129 days behind the projected total, which was about 150 pages per day, to reach the 54,885 for (Y-9).

Hence this page total would have to been reached on the mentioned date, if I go back to my projections the total for today, may 9th, should be 31,200 pages.

So, I have until October 13 to read about 42,881 pages.

Some caffeine infused late night are naturally to follow.

Wish me luck

(Y-9) Just keep on reading

These last two weeks have been really busy but full of great activities.

On the reading front, my forward momentum has slowed down but not to the point of being concern about it.

Things have progressed somewhat slow but with a constant flow of pages.

According to my projections, the year promises to finish with about 28,000 pages, which is pretty good but not what I hope for. This put much more pressure on (Y-10) to achieve the coveted 130,500 pages in three years.

My reading, at least for the last two weeks, has been a mixture of comic and a little headway on my current books, Apocalipsis by Stephen King and Sorgo Rojo by Mo Yan.

Also, I finished reading The Amber Spyglass, the third and final book of His Dark Material series, in my opinion, the weakest of the series, don’t get me wrong is still a pretty good book but not quite as good as the previous two.

Last week I mainly spent it attending some conferences in the local art museum and doing a walk along the border to visit some of the murals painted by the local artists on the retaining concrete walls of the Rio Bravo.

And for the main dish of the weekend, a concert of At the Drive-In with the magnificent opening act of  Le Butcherettes.

At the Drive-In are natives of El Paso, the city that we share our beautiful borderland.

So here is the number for this period:

  • Total pages for  the ninth year: 11,797 pages
  • Days left for the ninth year: 160 days
  • Books left in the ninth year: 20 books
  • Pages left to read in my goal for the ninth year: 43,088 pages
  • Total pages of Lost in a million pages: 195,263 pages

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) World Book Day …well yesterday was

I had plans for a day long marathon of reading and caffeine but you know live gets in the way.

I had my little reading nook ready to go.

I got up, on Sunday morning, around 5:30, put on a fresh pot of coffee and sat down determined to read at least 300 pages. Not 5 minutes pass when I fell to sleep .

I was woken up by the delightful Carolina, my youngest, around 7:30, when she tried to cuddle up with me. Needless to say I opted to play with her and make some breakfast.

Later in the afternoon I gave it another go with similar results.

Maybe next year I’ll plan it better, and include some reading with my little ones.

All in all it was an awesome weekend, I just have to remember to buy a certain someone a red rose and a book.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Documentary

Yesterday I watch a heart-wrenching piece of art.

One More Time with Feeling started as a glimpse into the recording of Nick Cave’s latest album Skeleton Tree but it quickly transforms into a harrowing testament of coping with the tragic loss of Mr. Cave’s teenage son.

It was a moving and tear-jerking experience that honestly I hadn’t felt in a movie in a long time.

This was part of the 12th annual cycle of documentaries presented by Ambulante   there still a few days left of showings, you can check the schedule in the link above.

And the trailer for this beautiful documentary you can see it here.

(Y-9) Pulitzer Prize 2017

So the winners were announced about a week ago and I just got around to look at the full list which you can find here.

From this year winners, Olio was the one that caught my attention. A poetry collection by Tyehimba Jess. This in the spirit of keeping a promise to myself to read more poetry, a genre that I don’t read as often as I should.

Well back to it.

Happy Readings.

(Y-9) The first 10,000 pages of the year.

Last night was one of those full of insomniac energy. Thanks to that I finally finish reading A Dance with Dragons, after 118 days.

This gave me a total of 10,781 pages for this year and only 44,104 pages to go and 21 books to finish. A walk in the park.

With that in mind, I dive right into the next book, Apocalipsis ( the Spanish version of The Stand) by Stephen King.

Along with Jerusalem by Alan Moore and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, are the only massive books, each over 1,000 pages long, left in this year reading list.

With roughly 6 months to go on my reading year, I feel focus and determined to complete the task at hand.

Caffeine don’t fail me now.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) The State of things and my final waltz with Dragons

I’m on the final stretch of A Dance with Dragons, my plan is to finish it by Thursday night, and jump right in into my next big book, The Stand by Stephen King.

The last two nights have been spent in my favorite reading spot, just hacking away at this terrific book.

To be honest, I have been procrastinating with my reading, sometimes you need to recharge, so with that in mind, this weekend was just what I needed.

What better to energize than wine and art.

First I went to the Art Museum of my fair city, Ciudad Juárez, and was blown away with the fascinating collection of artist Carla Rippey, if you live in Juarez and even if you don’t you should go and visit it.

And to finish the day some wine, the first “Festival del Vino Paso del Norte” , in hope that is only the beginning of many more years.

I bought some great wine from producers in my home state, Chihuahua.

Well with my batteries charge and ready to take on the next half of this year of reading, that present some gargantuan task.

So here are the number for this period:

  • Total pages for  the ninth year: 9,484 pages
  • Days left for the ninth year: 185 days
  • Books left in the ninth: 23 books
  • Pages left to read in my goal for the ninth year: 45,401 pages
  • Total pages of Lost in a million pages: 193,046 pages

Happy Readings!!!!
