(Y-12) Happy Halloween

It is finally here, one of my favorite days of the year.

And to celebrate, from the comfort of my because I am fighting a cold, I’ll try to finish Frankenstein, only 67 pages.

Also, watch my traditional list if movies, which are:

  1. Shaun of the Dead
  2. Frankenstein
  3. Bride of Frankenstein
  4. Night of the Living Dead
  5. Paranorman

Hopefully I can go thru them before this spooktacular day is over.

I am off to rest, watch some movies, and hopefully get some reading done.

(Y-12) it was the day before Halloween

One more day to go for one of my favorite days of the year, Halloween.

I have still little over 100 pages to go on my traditional Frankenstein read, but there’s time to get it done.

Also, my other favorite Halloween tradition is to watch two classic movies, Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein, both directed by the legendary James Whale, and starring the incomparable Boris Karloff.

Can’t wait to eat my weight in candies and have a day long spook fest.

I am off to read.

(Y-12) Keep the spookiness rolling

We are 5 days until Halloween, and that means some monsters galore.

Up next in my reading, besides my traditional Frankenstein annual reading, is the first volume of the classic Marvel Comics series Werewolf by Night, the cursed man knowed as Jacob Russoff.

Created by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog, he first appear in Marvel Spotlight #2 in 1972.

I pretended to read this last year, but now it is the perfect season to do so.

I am off to read.

(Y-12) keeping the tradition alive.

Today marks the beginning of one of my longest and dearest traditions, reading Frankenstein.

For this year I will have a bit of a twist, I have from today, October 22, until the celebration of Dia de los Muertos, which on November 2, and my favorite celebration of my beautiful country.

Let’s get to it, I am off to read.

(Y-11) One week left

I have one week left on this, the eleventh year of reading.

I have been a bit under the weather, a bit of a problem with my left shoulder and hand, but I have been taking advantage of my obligated days of rest and made some headway with my reading.

To start off, and after 69 days, I finished the fourth book, House of Chains, of the epic series The Malazan Book of the Fallen, this is not for the casual fantasy fan, this a hardcore epic saga with a complex world, and an even more complex magical system, named Warrens, which by the way it is my favorite thing in the whole series.

Also, the scenes in the holy desert of Raraku are amazing.

Right now I’ll focus on two novels to close out the year strong.

First, the amazing post-apocalyptic tale by Mexican writer Rafael Villegas, Animal Verdadero, which follows the chaotic existence of Luther Moran, I am almost at the halfway point, and it has been amazing.

The other novel is the next chapter in the legendary story of Drizzt Do’Urden, The Companions, it serves as the first chapter of The Sundering Saga, which expands to other characters in the vast and treacherous lands of Faerûn.

I realize now that I haven’t written anything in the month of October, which for me is really called Spooktober, and it is my favorite time of year, this is because of my two favorite holidays take place in this time of year, Halloween and Dia de los Muertos.

And in that spirit, I will be ready spooky stories for my month-long celebration.

To start off, ill return to one of my favorite comic-book writers, Steve Niles, for the occasion, the first three volumes of the 30 days of Night On-Going series will perfectly do, and to put the cherry on top, his work with legendary illustrators Bernie Wrightson and Kelley Jones.

After that, I’ll continue with the classic Italian series of supernatural detective Dylan Dog, with the fifth volume printed in Spanish, The Assassins.

And to close out this first leg of my Spooktacular Spooktober, sorry got carried away, I’ll read the latest addition to Neil Gaiman’s Sandman Universe, being this the first volume published in Spanish of the series The Dreaming, which I read in English, but now it is time to enjoy it in my native tongue.

It this month would not be complete without some classic Swamp Thing action, of course in the able hands of its creators Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.

Now let us talk about my numbers.

As I said before I have 7 days to go on this year of reading.

My total up until today is 45,534 pages, way passed my second-best year of reading, but still 2,172 pages to make it my best one, and 7,466 pages to reach my ultimate goal of 53,000 pages for the year.

The first feat is still within my reach, the second is now out of my reach.

I am 47 days behind my reading schedule and on the front of reaching 500,000 pages my latest calculations place the date on the 4 of July of 2028, this is 26 days earlier than my last calculation.

Some forward momentum from which take motivation to face the next challenges up ahead.

For now, I am off to read.
