(Y-10) 93 days… a very slow one.

Today was one of those rare days in which my need to binge watch a series overtook my desire to make headway with my reading.

But right now I’m getting the itch to read, which in can only mean that I’ll have a late night.

And for this type of situations, I’ll have to rely on my sweet friend Captain Crunch, you know, fuel for the fire.

(Y-10) 94 days… more forward progress

The main goal for today was to finish my book, The Pirate King, and I am glad to inform that task it is done.

And because of this I am one step closer to my total page goal, right now that total sits at 20,835 pages.

I’ll try to keep this forward momentum going and in order to do this I’ll jump right into the next Legend of Drizzt book, The Ghost King, final book of the Transitions Trilogy.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) 95 days…just chilling and reading

Today was a really relaxed day.

Did some reading, you know a bit of my book and a couple of graphic novels, the first two volumea of DC Comics Rebirth’s Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps.

I was reminded why this book are so precious, pure Technicolor science fiction fun.

So with that my grand total for the year is now 20,439 pages.

I’ll close out the day with some more Drizzt action.

(Y-10) 96 days…a cloudy one.

Today was a really hectic day.

Between running around doing errands and the normal daily routine I did not have much time to read.

In between waiting, I squeezed some reading, little progress in the book and little progress on a digital graphic novel.

This time it was a compilation of the DC Comics works of extraordinary artist, Mike Mignola.

And to start things off with a bang, a story of the Phantom Stranger, just perfect for the style of Mr. Mignola.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more productive.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) 97 days… some light reading.

This day has been devoted to making some headway with my book, The Pirate King, the twentieth of the saga of the Legend of Drizzt and the second in the story arc Transitions.

As always it is some great swashbuckling fun without sacrificing the depth and emotional development of the characters.

It is safe to say that the renegade Drow Drizzt Do’Urden is one of the most memorable fantasy characters ever created.

For now, I think I’ll close the day trying to reach the third part of the book and maybe squeeze in some Green Lantern action.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) All in..or how I am going to read my ass off.

With a few pending things under the “done” column, now it is the perfect time to capitalize on the upcoming extended vacation period and really make some headway.

Right now I’m sitting on 14,955 pages of total reading, my goal is to double that by the end of July.

Let us call it goal number one, to reach 29,910 pages by July 31st.

For my second goal of the period is to get back on schedule for these years “Goodreads Reading Challenge,” in which, I put a 100 book goal for 2018, and according to my current progress, I am 6 books behind.

As you can see, I am currently reading one book and one graphic novel, and just finished The Books of Magic by Neil Gaiman.

So, the immediate task for tonight is to finish my current book, The Thousand Orcs, jump right into the next book in the extraordinary saga of Drizzt, probably start reading Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade, get some sleep in between all of this, and hopefully pass the 15,000-page mark by tomorrow.

For now, I’ll just get caffeine in my system and get to reading.

Good Night.

(Y-10) Painfully lagging

These past few days have been really killer for my progress.

I need to regroup and march on with my reading goals.

I’ll schedule my time to jump between the massive pile of digital and printed Graphic Novels and my enormous pile of books to read.

So, one thing at a time, first I’ll power through Batman Vol. 3: Death of the Family

And then focus on my roaming thru Faerûn with Drizzt and company.

Luckily I’ll have some new sonic companions, three to be exact, but for tonight I will be in good company with The Boss himself.

(Y-10) go back to sleep…activate panic mode

My original intention was to start reading The Legend of Drizzt series around mid-November, but, apparently, it is already December.

Of the 33 books of this epic saga, I have read the first trilogy, that is in the chronological order of the story because it was published after the second trilogy, The Icewind Dale, of the chronology, bit confusing, I know.

The first trilogy, The Dark Elf Trilogy, follows Drizzt in the Underdark, his homeland. Since the first time I delve into the world of this rogue Dark Elf my fantasy loving self-has been longing to go back to this vast and captivating world.

So, this year, it is the main attraction.

As you can see above this is the trilogy I plan to read over the holiday break, besides some graphic novels.

But what is standing on my way you may ask.

Well, only 5 books and 19 days.

Two of them I’m currently reading, Lord of the Rings, at page 462 of 1,137 , and The Legend of Huma, at page 218 of 384.

The other three are a trilogy set in the fantasy world of Dragonlance.

Dragons of a Fallen Sun, Dragons of a Vanished Moon and Dragons of a Lost Star, better known as the War of Souls trilogy, supposedly should introduce a new era of heroes to an already rich history of legendary figures.

In all these books are about 1,800 pages and with another 800 pages from the ones in progress, they amount to a gargantuan, bat-shit crazy, no sleep, highly caffeinated task, and guess what, I’m going to do it.

And I brought reinforcements, first and foremost, some good tunes, in form of three of my current favorite albums.

Prisoner by Ryan Adams and A Deeper Understanding and Lost in the Dream by The War on Drugs, all things in life are made better with music and I’m doing it old school and playing them on vinyl, I don’t know but there is something ritualistic about changing the record and feeling its weight on your hand that something digital can’t give you, sure more practical to use a streaming service for the day to day, but in this special occasions good old vinyl hits the right spot.

The second thing is some nice and dark chocolate, obviously to go along with the liters of coffee that I’m about to consume. Along with this I have a new little partner gracing my bookshelf, none other than my favorite comic-book character, Hellboy, well a cute version of him.

And lastly my faithful bullet journal to keep track of all the nuisance and crazy ideas that cross my over caffeinated and under slept mind.

Lately and unfortunately there have been a lot of red days, but with this tasks in hand I can no longer afford them.

20171204_223624-1478672418.jpg

Doing the math, I’ll have to read 2,628 pages in 19 days. I really don’t shy-away from crazy challenges.

Stay tuned for daily progress briefings and random happenings.

I almost forgot, my page total for this, the tenth year of reading is 3,425 pages, little under my goal for the end of November, but, I’ll take it.

Now back to reading, see you tomorrow.

(Y-9) 22 days… seven times seven

Yesterday I almost put down Jerusalem and leave it for another time.

It’s messing with my mind, in a good way.

The book is so rich and deeply layered, that is no secret coming from Mr. Moore’s pen.

But I decided to push through and finish it before October 13.

That is when (Y-10) begins and epicness ensues.

For year ten, the total of pages to read will be determined by how (Y-9) ends in total pages, but I’m looking forward to about 90,000 + pages. A gargantuan task.

With this in mind, I thought about how many books and pages should I read for the 10th anniversary of my crazy project. Hence, the title of this post, seven times seven.

Using that idea, which has been rattling around my mind for no apparent reason, I came with the number of books for the year: 7 x 7 = 49 books, and, in order to consider (Y-10) a productive year I should at least read 7 x 7,777 = 54,439 pages.

For now, I’ll spend some long night trying to rack up as many pages as I can and keep searching for epic material to read next year.

(Y-9) 44 days….making plans

Usually, at this time of the year, I begin planning the reading for next year.

Like I said in past posts the next year of reading is back to the one genre that got me hooked on reading, Epic Fantasy.

So, from now on (Y-10) will be known as “Total Epicness”.

To start the year with a bang I will read the illustrated edition of The Hobbit and the 50th-anniversary edition of Lord of Rings.

20170831_180710

From there I planned to tackle three series: The Malazan Book of the Fallen (starting with book 2) by Steven Erikson, The Black Company by Glen Cook and the Dragonlance: The War of Souls. I know a huge task but I’m up for it.

And to top it off, and if completed, the crown jewel of the year, I will tackle almost the entire Legend of Drizzt series by R.A. Salvatore. I’ll start with book 4, the first three I have already read, and work myself up to number 23, which is the last they have published.

In all the list for (Y-10) is 49 books.

So these coming months I’ll focus on buying the missing books and find a comfortable spot to read because I’m in for a long ass task.

Happy Readings!!!
