(Y-11) Getting closer

With only a few days left to the 24in48 readathon, I still think what to read.

But primarily, my focus should be on finishing Deadhouse Gates, currently on page 545.

So I’ll take a brief moment to get you up to speed of my recent progress.

My total for yesterdays reading was 50 pages, and I managed to finish the first volume of Green Lanterns: Rage Planet, part of the DC Comics Universe Rebirth, and featuring one of the best villains in recent Green Lantern history, Atrocitus.

Here you can delight in one of the covers.

And here is the infographic sheet generated with Bookly.

The next graphic novel on my queue is Batman: Earth One, which I think will be amazing because of the team-up of two legends, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank.

Back to it, and hopefully tomorrow I can post an update on my numbers for the year.

(Y-11) Into a Trance

Today marks the end of the NFL playoffs, it is one weekend off, and on the 3rd of February, it is the big game, the Superbowl.

I am not that invested on the game, but I do want to watch it, it will be my 32 consecutive years enjoying the game, it was Superbowl XXI, the New York Giants defeated the Denver Broncos.

So now I’ll go into a significant reading trance.

Firstly, to finish Deadhouse Gates by Friday morning, currently on page 520, and picking up the pace.

This is because, at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, I’ll start the 24in48 readathon, in order to match the official starting time, which is 12:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, I have to begin at this hour because I am on the Mountain Standard Time, that is 2 hours behind, and on Sunday I should wrap up by 9:59 p.m.

I intend to start reading Gauntlgrym, part of The Legend of Drizzt saga, as the inaugural book of this my second readathon. Hence the need to finish with Deadhouse Gates.

I am gathering my other material for reading, which is comprised mainly of digital and printed graphic novels and comics.

And just to close out this post and get back to reading, I’ll like to say that my total for yesterday was 94 pages.

Clawing my way back slowly.

Back to it then.

(Y-11) Some growth

Yesterday my reading went up a little bit.

My total was 68 pages, and at this moment I’ll take any kind of forward momentum.

I finished the second volume of J.H. Williams III Batwoman, honestly, what an amazing book.

Here you can see the infographic sheet generated with Bookly

Also, I started reading the first volume of Green Lanterns, part of the DC Universe Rebirth.

So, this weekend will be mainly for catching up with my reading, watching the Conference Championship Games of the NFL, and organizing my reading for next weekend’s 24in48 readathon, this includes finishing Deadhouse Gates, currently on page 455.

Well, now back to it.

(Y-11) The Malazan situation.

I made the decision to focus on finishing Deadhouse Gates before the 24in28 readathon, which on the weekend of January 26, so I can start my reading session with a fresh book.

In this case that will be Gauntlgrym, the first book of the Neverwinter Saga, following the exploits of one of my favorite characters, Drizzt Do’Urden.

So I have about 15 days to finish, and my reading outlook looks like this.

I’ll probably squeeze some graphic novels between reading sessions, but the main focus is to finish with this amazing book and get ready for the readathon.

Now back to it.

A Malazan Trek

On my earlier post, I was asking myself how to finish the second volume of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, Deadhouse Gates.

So, I came to the conclusion that to achieve that I should, I don’t know, read maybe.

Well, I shall do precisely that, I’m starting on page 313, and hopefully, by midnight I should reach close to page 400.

Let’s say this is a dressed rehearsal for the 24in48 readathon in January.

I’ll post again before midnight, in my time zone which is standard mountain time.

To read.

(Y-11) Just Barely got there.

Yesterday was a lazy day, well at least compared on how I have been reading for the past month.

My total of pages was just barely got past my minimum for the day, which if you recall is 146 pages, well, yesterday’s total was 147 pages, getting it done by the skin of my teeth.

This is talks to its fantastic conclusion of Valiant Comics series Shadowman, in its fourth volume and written by incomparable Peter Milligan.

It goes out with a bang, and it opens up to the next chapter, Shadowman: End of Times, which I am planning to read really soon.

Here is the infographic sheet generated with Bookly.

And just for the fun of it an alternate cover by one of my favorite artists, Ben Templesmith, famous for the series 30 days of night and he’s how creator-owned series Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse.

On the book front, yesterday was just pathetic, only a couple of pages, but I still stand by the idea of finishing it by next Saturday, how am I going to do it remains to be seen.

Caffeine, don’t fail me now.

The other thing I have started working on is my reading schedule for the 24in48 readathon, I try to make each of my reading session focused on one particular theme, for example, I am planning on finishing the Scott Pilgrim series, so one of the reading session will be devoted to that, it only adds to the fun.

Also, I have been reaching out to make one of my reading session a collective one. Still, some of the details have to be refined, but I expect to make a memorable event out of it.

I’ll keep you post it about any new developments, and of my other two events happening in March.

For now, I’ll get back to the Malazan campaign which I have neglected so badly.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Happy New Year

I hope your new year’s celebration was a blast and you are as psyched for the year to come.

I spent mine in bed, doing some binge watching with my wife, we decided to start watching Supernatural from the first season up to the thirteen, which the last available to stream on Prime Video.

But I also, in between breaks, I spend it reading.

An I am glad to inform you that it was my best day of all of the 31 from this, vacation period.

The total was 434 pages, this is thanks to that I finished the third volumes of Harbinger and Bloodshot, an all-out war of the psiops.

Also, I read three comic books by extraordinary writer and illustrator Becky Cloonan, these three stories are from her creator-owned series Ink and Thunder, whichever you choose they are fantastic, or better yet, read all three.

Also, I made a bit of headway with Deadhouse Gates, 19 pages, and currently on page 159, also I will be using a new app to track my reading, it is called Bookly, and my intention is to generate an infographic report of each book I read, which is one of the main things that attracted me to the app.

Let’s see how it plays out.

And with all of this reading, my total crossed the 9,000 page-mark.

9,300 to be precise, which gives me a lot of satisfaction, because at the beginning of December I set out to reach 8,000 pages and came out at the other end with much more.

In going thru my number for December, I came up with a total of 6,325 pages read that month, and all of the days above my minimum daily average, I just can see by the graphic below.

December numbers

Yes, I made a graphic, don’t judge me.

A very productive month I must say, I know that this is an atypical month, being almost all without school, at least in my case, but if I could only replicate a couple of time a year, I will be in great shape.

Concerning my reading schedule, and again thanks to this reading spurt, I am now only 17 days behind from the original calculations, and hopefully, by the end of January, this will be reduced dramatically.

Now I want to talk about how my last year of reading, 2018 of course, because as I have explained on other posts, the year of reading for my projects begins and ends in October.

Anyway, I’ll start with stats from Goodreads.

I won’t spoil any of the fun so you can check it out this pretty cool infographic. Here you can see my year of reading on Goodreads.

Just one thing, I did complete my goal of reading 100 books.

And for next year, I’ll keep the number at 100 and hopefully surpass it with flying colors, as I did this year.

screenshot_20190101-052639927200026.jpg

On WordPress, my blog did fantastic, its best year to date.

I wrote 175 posts, which amount to 29,299 words, a whopping 20,000 more words than 2017, I have been doing my work and enjoying every single second of it.

The site received 70% more hits than 2017, which had a total of 626, compared to 1,062 from this year.

That I know, it could be small numbers to some, but for me, they are glorious.

stats 2018

The top three countries I received visits from were: The United States, Mexico (my country) and The United Kingdom, also, some happy surprises of countries that I have reached, like India or Finland, thanks to all for reading.

mapa 2018

So those are basically my stats for last year of blogging, in 2019 I hope to double down on my writing, and hopefully, this would reach more of persons in my effort to share this experience, for which I am truly grateful that so many take the time to read it.

Now for the near future of Lost in a Million Pages, let me tell you that I have big plans.

First of all, and in the context of the 24in48 readathon I will be participating at the end of January, I decided to start hosting little events with the idea to promote the literary and coffee culture that is becoming quite strong in my city, Ciudad Juarez, that is in Mexico.

I’ll start small, hosting a reading party for one of the sessions of the 24in48 readathon, this of course in one of my favorite local coffee house, more information coming soon.

The other thing is that probably by the end of March or the beginning of April I will reach 250,000 pages.

I am 7,673 pages from achieving it, and right now I am working with an artist friend to commemorate this joyous occasion, as with my events more information coming soon and a preview of the fantastic work he is doing.

So, I have a lot on my plate for this upcoming year.

But for now, I’ll kick back and enjoy so reading and gear up for what appears to be a busy and exciting year.

Happy Readings!!!

I sit at the halfway point of my month-long reading session.

And so far, I haven’t missed a beat.
