24in48 readathon about to begin

Just one and a half hour to begin the second readathon of this year, 24in48 readathon, my personal favorite.

The task is simple, read 24 hours in 48 hours, that’s between 10:01 p.m. of today, Friday February 5, until 9:59 p.m. of Sunday February 7, this because of the time zone I live in.

This one is going to be tricky, along my reading I have one of my favorite days of the year, Superbowl Sunday.

I’ll try my best to at least read 12 hours, but most of all, I plan to have great fun.

The clock is set, and I am ready to go.

Off to read

Short story challenge, day three

To continue this great energy booster mini project, I’ll read the next short story on the anthology The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian, The God in the Bowl.

As with the last story, The Frost-Giant’s Daughter, I was already familiar with these adventures of Conan from their comic book adaptation by Dark Horse Comics of the 2000’s

For tomorrow, I’ll probably switch books, I’m contemplating a story from Legends II anthology, there’s one from Robin Hobb that’s making googly eyes at me.

For now, I am off to read, and get ready for a weekend filled with reading.

Short story challenge, day two

I completed successfully the first day of my new mini project, to read one short story a day for th rest of 2021.

As I say, I will be going thru some anthologies, mainly fantasy ones, and kick start my day with a short but sweet story.

Yesterday was The Phoenix on the Sword, from The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian, and today is The Frost-Giant’s Daughter, from the same book.

For now, I am off to read.

Short story challenge

It is no secret that I am going thru a reading slump.

Since the beginning of 2021, I just can’t catch a good reading rhythm.

Yesterday, I was trying to put some sense of order in my bookshelves, and I came across a series of anthologies by Robert E. Howard, the famous creator of Conan The Barbarian.

It hit me, that maybe I can start my day not only with my standard issued black coffee, it can be accompanied with a short but sweet story, so I begin scheming.

For the remaining days of the year I will start my reading day with a short story, that’s 332 stories.

To kick off this new mini project, I’ll read a story from the book that inspire it, The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian.

And the first story in this anthology will be The Phoenix and the Sword, originally published on Weird Tales of December 1932.

For now, I am going off to read.

Balancing act, part six

I finished the month of January not quite the way I would have liked.

My total was 4,005 for the whole month, from the 6,505 projected to achieve some balance on my year of reading.

So I am back on the drawing board, and the strategy will be pretty much the same, to read my ass off.

The new number to achieve balance for the month of February will be 7,272 pages, that for a short month is quite the challenge, but as always, I am up for it.

For what concerns my total numbers for this year, number thirteen of this project, I am pleased with my progress, my total page count is 12,918, and with 126 days left on this transitional and short year, I am confident I’ll rise up to the challenges left.

My focus is on two impending issues, first, reaching my next milestone, 15,000 pages, from which I am 2,802 pages away from, and the second is to cut the days behind my reading schedule, 37, to at least half that by the end of February.

For the ultimate goal, reading 1,000,000 pages, I would wish for better news, but right now, according to my projections, the date of reaching that goal is April 4, 2045, fourteen years later from my 50th birthday, that would mean I would be 63 years, 9 months, and 30 days old.

As always I am working on getting those numbers down, quite successfully I might add, and will continue to o so.

For now, I am off to read, and scheme.

Tapping out

After 7 hours, and 41 minutes, I have decided to stop my participation on Bookly’s Winter Readathon .

The goal was 10 hours over 4 days of reading, and to be close to 8 hours, and 591 total pages, I put this on the winning column.

My only concern is the upcoming, and really physically demanding 24in48 readathon.

Am I really up to the task?

Guess will see.

Tomorrow, I’ll post how my quest to balance out my total page count, spoiler alert, it’s not so good.

For now, I am off to rest my eyes.

Halfway there

As I start reading this Saturday morning, I realize that the halfway point of the Bookly Winter Readathon was behind me.

That gives me pretty much all the weekend to finish with the other half of the challenge.

I have been focusing on the eight volume of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, Toll the Hounds, currently on page 303, so my page count is kind of low.

Today I’ll be focusing more on the graphic novels in my reading list, and hopefully the goal for January will be achieved.

For now, I am off to read.

Off to the races

And thus begins, the first readathon of the year.

I started off with a little over an hour of reading, 1 hour and 22 minutes to be precise.

That means I have 8 hours and 38 minutes left on the Bookly Winter Readathon.

I’ll keep pounding away on Toll the Hounds, currently on page 233, and on volumes 3,4, and 5 of the legendary rings of Peter David on Hulk.

For now, I am off to read.

Preparing for the first readathon

With the fast approaching of the date of the first readathon of the year, starting thursday January 28, I am in full planning mode.

As I mentioned before, the goal is to read 10 hours over four days, to this challenge I will be also summing my how personal goal, to read 1,583 pages.

My intention is to at least read the 4,991 pages of my original goal for January, if all plays out in my favor, try to chip away some the 1,514 extra pages left from the other months, which are part of balancing act I have been posting about this passed few days.

Since all my printed graphic novels are gone, I will have to dig into my digital reserve, which is mainly located on my Comixology library.

I will post a list of reading for the readathon sometime tomorrow.

For today’s reading, and a warm up to the intense event ahead, I’ll keep on pounding away at Toll the Hounds, currently on page 194, and some She Devil action in Red Sonja: Vulture’s Circle.

For now, I am off to read, and scheme.

Balancing act, part five

I am entering the final week of January, and it will be an intense one.

The two main things to consider for this week, firstly, and the one which holds great weight, is that I still have 3,394 pages left on my goal for this month.

Secondly, and something that will help greatly to achieve that monumental goal, is the first readathon of the year, the goal, 10 hours of total reading, this, from January 28 to 31, and of course using Bookly app to track the progress.

For today’s reading, at least what is left of the day, I’ll keep on pounding away on Toll the Hounds, currently on page 159, and read the last volume that I bought, number 8, of the mesmerizing manga Berserk.

For now, I am off to read.
