(Y-10) 26 days…let the madness begin

I had a crazy notion stuck in my head.

Over the next few days, I will go on a trip.

Some downtime to read will do me some good.

So, here is where the crazy notion begins, I have convinced myself that is not acceptable to bring The Wise Man’s Fear on this trip, the only possible solution to this conundrum is to finish the book before I leave on Saturday.

Currently, I am on page 539, that is 461 left to finish the book and just about 4 days to do it.

Challenge accepted.

This forward motion gets me motivated, as I inch closer to my next milestone, 30,000 pages, the way becomes clear.

Read until I succumb to sleep.

Shall we begin?

Tomorrow is crazy numbers update day.

(Y-10) 30 days…the final act

This is the last month of this my 10th year of reading.

There are a few things I will like to point out.

I’ll start by saying that this is my second best year number wise.

I am still a little off to achieve the primary goal, which is to read more than the last two years combined, but right now and considering my hectic schedule, I am shooting for 30,000 pages.

With this in mind let’s see some numbers.

  • Total pages for (Y-10) : 28,314 pages.
  • Pages to reach 30,000 :  1,686 pages.
  • Pages to go to reach main goal of this year (read more than the two last years combined): 5,420 pages.
  • And lastly, Pages to go to reach my ultimate milestone (best year ever of reading): 19,435 pages.

To close out the night I will read a classic tale by legendary creator Walter Simonson, Ragnarok, who is responsible for some classic Marvel’s Thor stories, he goes back to Nordic mythology but with his very particular twist.

This is the first of two volumes translated into Spanish, the other one is waiting patiently on my nightstand, along with some other great graphic novels ready to be devoured.

Tick, Tock, goes the clock, will I be done in time.

Stay tuned to see.

(Y-10) 33 days…let there be a light

This weekend I had a little breath and did some reading and started working on my bullet journal for (Y-11), the last one was an experiment.

I made some headway with The Wise Man’s Fear, currently on page 464, and finish the first manga of my list, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

So, this leads us to a quick recap:

  • Total pages for (Y-10) : 28,270 pages.
  • Pages to go to reach main goal of this year (read more than the two last years combined): 5,464 pages.
  • And lastly, Pages to go to reach my ultimate milestone (best year ever of reading): 19,435 pages.

Not optimal but not dreadful, I’ll shoot for 30,000 pages but with bigger goals in mind.

The other part of my weekend my next bullet journal took a little bit of form.

I wanted to have it ready so that I can fill it up.

For this journal I had the privilege of a fantastic artist, who is a very close friend, make a couple of pieces of some of my favorite books/movies.

I thank Horte Minguez for this fantastic pieces.

Need to read more.

(Y-10) 40 days…tick tock goes the clock

Every time I am edging closer to the zero-hour.

Right now I have a shit load of assignments, and my procrastinating ass has not worked on my daily planner to squeeze some reading time.

So, with that in mind, I have 5,842 pages to reach my goal and 40 days to do it.

That is 147 pages per day.

On my daily planner, I will have to keep track on my progress and try to hit the minimal daily progress each and every day.

My will is there.

I am walking a very fine line, any false movement will throw me off, the plot thickens.

The menu for today: The Wise Man’s Fear (starting on page 348) and The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina Time (beginning on page 34)

Onward then, into the unknown.

(Y-10) 41 days…batteries recharged.

One of the few things that can give me a boost of energy, this is way beyond what caffeine or sleep can do, I mean true shamanistic recharge, is going to see live music.

Yesterday we had the joy, for the second time, of seeing le butcherettes.

This was the farewell to a legendary music venue, The Lowbrow Palace, they are moving to a different location.

But seeing Teri Gender Bender, lead singer of the band is indeed an unusual occurrence, her nervous energy is contagious.

Also, I scored the new single on a little flexible red vinyl, another great addition to my collection.

Today I plan to have a chill out day and keep pounding away on those pesky pages, the menu for the day: A tremendous portion of The Wise Man’s Fear, currently on page 348

And a treat not often seen on my reading list a Manga, in this case, the first volume of The Legend of Zelda, The Ocarina of Time.

I’ll try to reach 28,000 total pages this weekend. Currently, I am at 27,892 pages, only 108 measly pages to go.

Well, I’m off to enjoy what is left of the weekend, really energized and really to roll.

Happy Readings !!!

(Y-10) 44 days…next milestone achieved

From the hands of genius writer Alan Moore, I have achieved another milestone for this tenth year of my crazy project.

The book that put me on the other side was Mr. Moore’s Lovecraftian tale of Providence, the second issue to be precise.

It has been quite a long time since I read something new from one of my favorite authors, and as always he does not disappoint.

Slowly and beautifully the story becomes weirder and more complex.

Now for the number portion of the day.

  • Total pages for (Y-10) : 27,648 pages.
  • Pages to go to reach next milestone (second best year of reading): COMPLETED.
  • Pages to go to reach main goal of this year (read more than the two last years combined): 6,086 pages.
  • And lastly, Pages to go to reach my ultimate milestone (best year ever of reading): 20,057 pages.

I’ll spend the rest of my morning probably trying to read a couple more issues of Providence and have a stab at The Wise Man’s Fear, currently on page 327.

Back to it then.

(Y-10) Caffeine Pilgrimage, Black Coffee Gallery

Let me begin by telling that I know that Black Coffee Gallery is a chain store, that being said, I’ll let that slide only because it is a Mexican chain and each of its stores have the works of one particular graphic artist.

Here in Ciudad Juarez, there are two stores, I went to the newest one and found it to be quite pleasant, not overcrowded, with great natural light to read for hours.

I did not have any pastries but I did enjoy a giant Americano and it was right on point.

20180823_104955-1200421268.jpg

I could not find any info of who is the artist of the pieces hanging on the walls, but when I do, I’ll do a follow-up post with more information.

And I’ll visit the other location to try out some other drinks, some pastries and to see some original artwork.

Drink of Choice: Americano (for now)

Best Hour (for my taste):  9:30 for an invigorating morning read.

(Y-10) 47 days…an involuntary hiatus

The past two weeks have been just a blur.

I started classes for my master’s degree, in Urban planning and development in case you were wondering, and to get the hang of things, this of course after 11 years of graduation from my bachelor’s degree, take a few time to get used to again.

But things are falling into place and I am catching my rhythm again.

I planned to schedule my whole day so I can squeeze in some hours of reading.

Of course, for the next two years, I do not plan to have gargantuan reading numbers, but at least decent ones.

So, I bought a daily planner and I am prepping my new bullet journal for the 11th year of reading, this two things will be my lifelines in order to achieve some decent numbers.

And talking about numbers, here is where I currently stand:

  • Total pages for (Y-10) : 27,283 pages.
  • Pages to go to reach next milestone (second best year of reading): 335 pages.
  • Pages to go to reach main goal of this year (read more than the two last years combined): 6,451 pages.
  • And lastly, Pages to go to reach my ultimate milestone (best year ever of reading): 20,422 pages.

Right now I’ll take some time to schedule my days and read a few pages of The Wise Man’s Fear.

Happy Readings and wish me luck.

(Y- 10) 56 days…for the night is dark and full of reading

As the clock ticks down on this year, I have become really self aware of the predicament in front of me.

I would love to read all day, every day, but the truth of things is that I have started with a new chapter of my life.

So, for the next two years, I predict some really low number years, but I can assure you that I’ll come back with a vengeance.

With the sound of rolling thunder in the background, I’ll make the most of this few little breaths and try to sum up some pages.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-10) 59 days… back to The Dreaming

In the little off time that I had this week, I read the return of The Sandman, creation of the multi-talented and my all time favourite Author Neil Gaiman.

He leaves his creation in really able hands, and I am hopeful that this is going to be a great new run of this mesmerizing world that I discovered almost 20 years ago.

Give yourself to explore this and all of the previous chapters of one of The greatest stories ever told.

Now, I’ll take advantage of being wide awake and do some more reading.
