(Y-9) 53 days… tick…tock

Well, it has been a couple of shitty weeks, in general, and particularly on my reading.

In the past 7 days, I have managed to read the pathetic sum of 109 pages.

Haven’t finish any books or Graphic Novels.

You get the idea.

But on Saturday and Sunday, I received a couple of precious little moments that lifted me up.

Let’s start with Saturday or new goodies day.

One of my friends needed more shelf space, I gain some really cool stuff for my ever growing list of reading material.

The graphic adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand and the single issues are a series of comic books based on paintings by Legendary fantasy artist Frank Frazetta.

Also, I dove into my books/comic books stash at my parent’s house and found some Star Wars single issues and graphic novels and a book by Charles Vess, an extraordinary artist who worked on Stardust by Neil Gaiman.

All in all, it was fun watching my stash grow, believe I’m going to need it next year in order to achieve the monumental task that (Y-10) is going to be.

And on Sunday, especially in the early morning, my beautiful desert was covered by gray clouds and light rain. This kind of days just fills me with a deep feeling of peace.

So, coming back to the rough numbers, I have 53 days left on (Y-9) and 11, 358 pages to tackle.

Let’s get this show on the road and go after those pages.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) and the desert gentle weeps

Sometimes your world just gets rattled by an event so heart breaking that it can only mean that it’s the end of an era.

Sadly this past Tuesday my beloved father passed away.

He struggled, thankfully for a short time, with that dreadful disease known as cancer.

Part of me will forever mourn his absence, and my other part will remember always the time I spent with him.

I inherited quite a few things, besides the eerie physical similarity.

My love for the desert and nature in general, come directly from him; also my sense of humor and love for red wine and sotol.

My curiosity and love for reading comes indirectly from him, through his mother, she always had a house full of books and an extreme passion for poetry.

Needless to say this last few days haven’t been really productive on reading.

I missed him terribly.

And now I raise a toast in his honor, with the most appropriate of drinks, sotol, as one time he said to me, it’s like some one bottled a rainy desert afternoon.

Cheers!! and good night.

(Y-9) Cloudy art filled day

Yesterday afternoon was one of those days that really charge up my batteries.

To start it was a beautiful overcast day.

And to top it off I went to see some amazing art with my favorite person in the world.

Our stroll was through the event held every Last Thursday of the month in our sister city of El Paso, Texas.

It’s a great place to hang-out, there’s art, pop-up galleries, music, food and many other things roaming around.

Our first stop was an art piece Paradox by local artist Laura Turon.

This refurbishes school bus is covered in a geometrical pattern.

From there a quick visit El Paso Museum of Art, where, apart from the impressive collection of the museum, we got to see the current exhibitions: The Red That Colored the World and Spirit Lines: Helen Hardin Etchings. Both amazing in their how regard. If you are in El Paso Area don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Museum.

As the Sun set, we took a seat in a small plaza next to the museum, just to take this magnificent day in.

Now I feel recharged to tackle this last 77 days of my reading year.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) red, red and more red

Again, for this six days reading period, red was the color of choice.

In the last 6 days, I have read a total 118 pages, when in fact I should have a total of 630 pages,  not what I’ll like.

So, with that in mind, I gave myself a few tasks to complete before the month end.

  • Finish My Name is Red
  • Finish Crimson Vol. 1
  • Reach Page 250 of Jerusalem
  • Reach the halfway point of  Star Wars: Tyrant’s Test.

A few simple things to get me going again.

Which incidentally, I desperately need.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) Seeing Red

I’m on the verge of finishing one of my digital Star Wars books. if all goes well by the early afternoon it will be done.

Also, I keep pounding away at Jerusalem and My Name is Red.

I have 84 days left in this ninth year of reading, 17 books and 12,037 pages stand in the way of a successful year.

In light of this numbers yesterday evening I took a little time to try and advance with my reading, it was mildly successful, with lots of caffeine and some reading.

Seeing my journal and the progress for the last few days I find something disturbing.

I’m seeing an awful lot of red.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) 96 days

Yesterday was slow in all regards.

I’m 57 pages from finishing Apocalipsis and with that only 17 books from completing this year list.

12 of this books are in print, and the remaining 5 are Star Wars novels that I have on my phone.

With 96 days remaining and 17 books to read, I should be finishing a book every 5.6 days.

For now, I’ll focus on Apocalipsis and start with Alan Moore’s Jerusalem, which is one of the big books I have on my list and can’t really read outside the house, you know, because of girth issues.

I’ll try to make headway with the digital ones and with the smaller book that I can carry around and focus on the big ones on the evenings/nights.

Happy Readings!!!

hopefully tomorrow my total count for the year will increase somewhat.

(Y-9) 97 days

Yesterday was a very productive day,  to the point that I have only 111 pages to go in Apocalipsis.

My intention is to finish it today, read Crimson Vol.1 and hopefully start with Jerusalem in the late afternoon.

And device some strategy for the next days to finish around 17 books.

For now, some coffee and some reading.

one page at a time.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-9) 99 days

Starting the day with 291 pages to go in Apocalipsis, the plan is to finish by this weekend and start with Jerusalem.

Also, I’ll try to finish volume 1 of the comic Crimson, I desperately need some pages, you know to get the wheels rollin.

Happy Readings !!!
