(Y-11) keep it going… on a roll (Day 12 of 31)

Yesterday I was worried because of the lateness of the hour and my lack of reading.

But fortunately I pull through.

This of course was achieved mainly because I found the perfect balance between being caffeinated out of my mind and a bit of insomnia mixed into it.

So, last night I read part of the second volume of Spawn Origins series and finished the last manga of Legend of Zelda published in Spanish, The Four Swords.

And thanks to this my total for the day was 236 pages and 4,680 pages for this the eleventh year of reading.

On the book front, I am on page 430 of 627 of The Gardens of the Moon with plans to finish by Saturday.

I forgot to mention that I finally went to see Fantastic Beasts :The Crimes of Grindelwald.

It was really good, the only problem is that is all over the place, if you are planning to do a series of movies, take it slow, building it up and don’t try to give a lot of information in such an short amount of time, and the other things I was wondering, where the hell are all the wizard’s robes, they do look pretty slick in their 20’s attire, but I did miss those eccentric and colourful robes.

Now back to reading.

(Y-11) just keep flowing (day 10 of 31)

Yesterday was another good day, this streak just keeps getting momentum.

My total yesterday was 175 pages.

Today, I had a significant advance with Gardens of the Moon, currently on page 403 of 627.

I have the goal to start the second book of the series, Deadhouse Gates, by this weekend.

So, the attack plan for tonight, chip away some pages from Gardens of the Moon and try to finish The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords manga.

Now back to it, for the night is dark and full of reading.

(Y-11) Another great day of reading (Day 9 of 31)

Yesterday was another great one.

The total, although not the 300 pages I was expecting, was over the minimum average for the day, and honestly, 200 pages are no easy thing to achieve.

The other important thing to mention is that I surpassed the 4,000-page mark.

4,318 to be precise.

This is shaping up to be one great season for my reading.

Today’s plan is pretty straightforward, try to advance with Gardens of, the Moon, currently on page 361 of 627

Read the last number of the fantastic Batman: White Knight.

And read some of the last manga I have of The Legend of Zelda, The Four Swords.

Again I am aiming for a 300 page-day, but with a clear purpose of clearing the minimum average for the day and of course have as much fun as possible.

Well now back to reading until it is time to go in and see Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald, yeah I know it has been showing for a while, but I haven’t had the time to go an see it,

Let’s see how it holds up.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) flowing into the weekend (day 7 of 31)

Just started the weekend in the best manner I can think of, reading on a rainy day sipping on a large cup of coffee.

Let me start off with the update of the daily reading challenge, from which I am glad to inform that it was victorious again, this time around the total pages for yesterday was 168.

My plans for this weekend of reading are as follow, make some headway with the Gardens of the Moon, currently on page 346 of 627, read the two latest volumes of the manga series The Legend of Zelda.

Already started with Minish Cap/Phantom Hourglass

Finally, I am going back to my roots and read the new collections of the now classic Spawn series by legendary writer/artist Todd McFarlane.

This was some of the first comics that I collected, and taking advantage that some of the collected editions are available on Kindle Unlimited, well, it is throwback time.

In other news, I finished Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, and with this, I am inching closer to the 4,000-page mark.

3,769 pages to be precise.

Here I leave you with some images of the closing tale of Doctor Strange Collection, with some fantastic art by P. Craig Russell.

Another cool thing that happened, and being a sucker for statistics, is that Spotify sends me an email detailing my year of listening.

And apparently I spent 26,496 minutes, that is 441 hours of enjoying some sweet groves.

The song that kicked off this year was Real Love Baby by Father John Misty, and the first band I discovered was Lo Moon, if you have not listened to neither, do yourself a favor and do so immediately.

And lastly, the band that I listen to the most was, drum roll please, Arctic Monkeys, with a total of 52 hours, mostly enjoying their new album Tranquillity Base: Hotel & Casino.

I wonder what new bands are waiting for me on the never-ending digital musical landscape, well, I have a whole year to find out.

Now back to reading.

(Y-11) keep the flow going( day 6 of 31)

Right now I am at the final stretch of Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, by my estimation it should be done by tonight.

On the book front, I had a bit of progress in the morning and I will try to read a bit more to close out the night. Currently on page 334 of 627.

And finally, concerning my goal for this month, I am glad to inform that once again the goal was met, 158 pages for yesterday’s session.

I have a bit of the night still left, let’s make the best of it.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) Go with the flow (day 4 of 31)

As the fourth day of December nears its end, I am glad to announce that my streak is alive and well.

As mentioned in the last post this December, I plan to read at least the minimum average for the day of reading, that is 146 pages to read 53,000 total pages for this year of reading.

So far the days have fare like this:

  • December 1st– 146 pages
  • December 2nd-146 pages
  • December 3rd-158 pages

And so far the 4th day has had a pretty decent session of The Gardens of the Moon, and it will continue with Kick-Ass Volume 3 and Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Afterlife, in which, I just enter a story-arc written by one of my favorite authors, Warren Ellis.

(Y-11) Dia de Muertos

Yesterday was my favorite Mexican holiday, Dia de Muertos, The Day of the Dead.

It is a special celebration, in which, we honor our dearly departed by putting their pictures and all of the things that they loved the most.

On the University’s grounds each year, the students and faculty, put up the traditional “altares” many dedicated to famous figures of Mexican and international cultures.

A really colorful celebration celebrating the life of our loved ones.

And with this day my Monster Mash period comes to a close and of the eleven tasks, which include reading horror books and watching some classic horror movies, I only completed two, reading the first volume of Hellboy in Hell and watching the new Halloween movie, so better luck next year.

The other good thing is that I finally started reading the second volume of Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run, just a few pages in and it is already surpassing all expectations.

20181101_1919381224037643.jpg

For now, I’ll work on this graphic novel and try to make some headway with Gardens of the Moon, currently on page 147 of 645.

The plan is to work my way thru the main storyline of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, that is, the ten novels written by Canadian author Steven Erikson and then jump back in with the infamous Drow Drizzt Do’Urden and continue my journey in the Forgotten Realms.

Now let’s talk numbers:

  • Total pages for (Y-11) : 1,254 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve first milestone (10,000 pages): 8,746 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve the main goal of the year (53,000 pages): 51,746 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the second-best year of reading (32,001 pages): 30,747 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the best year of reading (47,705 pages): 46,451 pages.

Now back to it, for the night is dark and full of reading.

(Y-11) Shelves, Bullet Journal, and some reading

At one week from the beginning of this new leg of my journey thru 1,000,000 pages, I find myself slowly progressing thru my reading tasks.

This week was one with some physical adjustments to part of my book collection, this is because of thinking, for more than a year, of getting some new bookshelves for the living room, well it finally happened.

And as fast as the carpenter install them, they were filled up almost to capacity, I still have some room to squeeze book on double rows, but for now, I am pleased to finally have all the shelf space I envisioned when we first moved into this house 6 years ago.

On the front of my physical system to keep track of my reading, I am pleased to say that this year is looking like one that my bullet journal will not be missing any daily entry.

Now, for my current reading, I’ll start by saying that I am working on two books, Frankenstein: 200th Anniversary Edition and the first part of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, Gardens of the Moon.

I was reading this book on my Kindle, but now with me organizing my new shelves, I found a physical copy that I bought about 12 years ago, needless to say, the physical copy will always win over any digital version of any book.20181021_093902-1884013414.jpg

Also, I finish reading Red Sonja: The Falcon Throne, an extraordinary story by Marguerite Bennett and beautifully illustrated by Aneke and Marguerite Sauvage.

Right now I am reading Red Sonja: The Art of Blood and Fire by one of my favorite comic book authors Gail Simone and illustrated by Walter Geovani and Ivan Rodriguez.

screenshot_20181018-1941081056557522.jpg

Now let us talk about the scary numbers for this year of reading, the situation goes as follow:

  • Total pages for (Y-11) : 394 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve first milestone (10,000 pages): 9,606 pages.
  • Pages to go to achieve the main goal of the year (53,000 pages): 52,606 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the second-best year of reading (32,001 pages): 31,607 pages.
  • Pages to go to be the best year of reading (47,705 pages): 47,311 pages.

I started slow, but eventually, I’ll pick up the pace, and my main focus is to achieve 10,000 pages by the end of December, wish me luck.

Now back to reading and, to enjoy this cloudy lazy Sunday, which, consequently is my son’s 7th birthday.

I see lots of pizza and cake in our future.

Happy Readings!!!

(Y-11) can’t sleep

This is one those nights than my insomnia kicks in.

My mind enters this weird state of semi-consciousness, not asleep but not awake.

So, I’ll take advantage of being like this and try to do some reading.

To start the evenings program I’ll take a stroll alongside Red Sonja, The She-Devil with a Sword, on a adventure named The Falcon Throne.

And to close out the night a bit of action with Gardens of the Moon, which it forebears a true delight for the journey I just started thru the Malaz Empire.

Hopefully, I’ll hit my the 146 pages per day mark, and probably can get a bit of rest.

Back to it then.

azr.

(Y-11) only snippets.

Today I was running around getting ready for Halloween, I know it is two weeks away, but it is one of the most fun days of the year, and I like to be prepared.

You know, candy and horror movies. A perfect combination.

On the reading front, today was one of those days that only little snippets of reading are possible.

I started reading the first book of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, Gardens of Moon, this is the type of series that needs a lot of reference material to keep up with so many characters and locations.

I am so excited to get back to this massive stories that build fantastic worlds in which you can explore and get lost for a while.

20181015_084914-1090800200.jpg

I am going to try to read a bit before I succumb to sleep.
