(Y-11) starting the day on a high note

I started my reading day with a bang, and now I am close to finishing The Dark Phoenix Saga.

Tomorrow I’ll update my numbers, and hopefully there will be progress all across the table

And finally, I am giving another shot to the reading progress app Bookly, starting fresh with my list, so far it is working excellent, I think the problem was that it was not suitable for my tablet, will see.

Off to read.

(Y-11) new comic books

I went yesterday to pick-up the new comic books for this week.

As I mentioned last time, here in Mexico, it is a whole adventure to find those new books, but that doesn’t discourage me.

To start, there was waiting for me the fourth volume of the Prince Valiant.

4 down, 72 volumes to go.

Also, the eight issue of DC Heroes in Crisis, and the start of a new series of one of my favorite characters, Green Lantern, written by one of my favorite writers, Grant Morrison, this looks really promising.

I will make tomorrow a comic book day, I just have to find the fifth number of DC Heroes in Crisis and I’m all set.

But tonight it’s back to Genabackis

(Y-11) tonight’s reading

For tonight’s repertoire, I’ll go back to the Dreaming, trek thru the badlands of Genabackis and try not to invoke the wrath of Phoenix.

But I’ll start in the Dream Lands.

Sweet Dreams.

(Y-11) Time to flex

I just achieved a couple of great things this weekend.

Finished with Fire & Blood, just one half of the Targaryen family history in Westeros, and with that I just got passed 30,000 pages for this year of reading.

I still have 23,000 pages in front of me, but I am ready to put on my reading glasses and get shit done.

Right now I will go back to Genabackis and continue to follow the epic story of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, now it will be the third volume, Memories of Ice.

I hope to finish this volume and the next two by the end of the summer.

This combined with lots of comic books.

Now back to reading, because those 900 pages are not going to read themselves

(Y-11) Getting closer

With only a few days left to the 24in48 readathon, I still think what to read.

But primarily, my focus should be on finishing Deadhouse Gates, currently on page 545.

So I’ll take a brief moment to get you up to speed of my recent progress.

My total for yesterdays reading was 50 pages, and I managed to finish the first volume of Green Lanterns: Rage Planet, part of the DC Comics Universe Rebirth, and featuring one of the best villains in recent Green Lantern history, Atrocitus.

Here you can delight in one of the covers.

And here is the infographic sheet generated with Bookly.

The next graphic novel on my queue is Batman: Earth One, which I think will be amazing because of the team-up of two legends, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank.

Back to it, and hopefully tomorrow I can post an update on my numbers for the year.

(Y-11) Into a Trance

Today marks the end of the NFL playoffs, it is one weekend off, and on the 3rd of February, it is the big game, the Superbowl.

I am not that invested on the game, but I do want to watch it, it will be my 32 consecutive years enjoying the game, it was Superbowl XXI, the New York Giants defeated the Denver Broncos.

So now I’ll go into a significant reading trance.

Firstly, to finish Deadhouse Gates by Friday morning, currently on page 520, and picking up the pace.

This is because, at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, I’ll start the 24in48 readathon, in order to match the official starting time, which is 12:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, I have to begin at this hour because I am on the Mountain Standard Time, that is 2 hours behind, and on Sunday I should wrap up by 9:59 p.m.

I intend to start reading Gauntlgrym, part of The Legend of Drizzt saga, as the inaugural book of this my second readathon. Hence the need to finish with Deadhouse Gates.

I am gathering my other material for reading, which is comprised mainly of digital and printed graphic novels and comics.

And just to close out this post and get back to reading, I’ll like to say that my total for yesterday was 94 pages.

Clawing my way back slowly.

Back to it then.

(Y-11) Bob Dylan is my co-pilot

Yesterday’s reading was acceptable, 58 pages.

I read some of the first volume of Green Lanterns, it is always great to see the fantastic art of Ethan Van Sciver gracing the pages of any story featuring the emerald knight.

As you can see in the picture below an extraordinary testament of Mr. Van Sciver talents.

So, today I took upon myself to fill my day with lots of reading, tea, coffee, and of course lots of music.

I started the day with The Clash, then passed to The War on Drugs and Le Butcherettes, and I am about to close out the day with none other than Bob Dylan.

Kind of a weird pairing for a trek thru the holy desert of Raraku, but good old Bob fits splendidly anywhere.

And speaking of The Malazan Book of the Fallen, I have reach page 500 of Deadhouse Gates, and still, have some gas left on the engine, so I intend to read 3/4 of the book, which means getting to page 524.

I’ll get back to it then.

(Y-11) Some growth

Yesterday my reading went up a little bit.

My total was 68 pages, and at this moment I’ll take any kind of forward momentum.

I finished the second volume of J.H. Williams III Batwoman, honestly, what an amazing book.

Here you can see the infographic sheet generated with Bookly

Also, I started reading the first volume of Green Lanterns, part of the DC Universe Rebirth.

So, this weekend will be mainly for catching up with my reading, watching the Conference Championship Games of the NFL, and organizing my reading for next weekend’s 24in48 readathon, this includes finishing Deadhouse Gates, currently on page 455.

Well, now back to it.

(Y-11) Slow day

Yesterday was another steady one for my reading, as the day before that my total was 41 pages.

Now, I have about one week to finish Deadhouse Gates, currently on page 441 and get ready for the 24in48 readathon.

I’ll try to finish off the night by reading for a bit and probably tomorrow I’ll post some of the books and graphic novels I plan to read for the readathon.

For now, my focus remains on closing out with my book and get ready to go back to the Forgotten Realms.

Back to it then.

(Y-11) can’t sleep, can’t read.

I am trying to take it slowly, ease into my reading rhythm from December, but I think it has gone too far and I am losing precious ground.

My total for yesterday was 41, better than the 14 from the day before that.

This mainly because a bit of my insomnia has been rattling around.

It basically turns my head into mulch.

Hence can’t fall asleep but I am not fully functional.

I have to get energy from my project and get back on track.

Fortunately, there are really cool things coming.

New winds.

New sections for the blog.

And a new life to old sections.

So, in the spirit of catching my rhythm again, I will close out the day reading some Batwoman, mesmerizing work.

And to put the cherry on top of all of this, I’ll read my quota of Deadhouse Gate.

Off to reading.
