(Y-12) My numbers so far

It has been a while since I talked about my progress toward reaching my ultimate page goal.

I had a few setbacks, but each day I have gained some ground.

Let me start by saying that this year is shaping up to be my best one yet.

My total sits at 31,449 of the 41,665 pages that it’s my goal for this year.

I still have 133 days until the end of this year of reading, and I am 40 days ahead of schedule, with my projections, and if everything remains the same, I will probably with around 49,000 pages.

That will be 2,000 pages more than my best year.

I have read 21 of the 49 books on my list for this year, this is one goal that I see nearly impossible to reach, but I’ll give it my best effort.

For the next year, the lucky number 13, I am planning to change my reading schedule, this, to make it coincide with my finishing date, my 50th birthday on June 6, 2031, that will mean that this year will be a short one, 236 days to be precise, and from year 14 onward, every reading year will end on my birthday.

On the broader picture, I have a total of 311,647 of the 1,000,000 pages that are the main goal for this project, those 688,353 pages left I have little over 11 years to read, quite the task but I’m up to it.

There are two things that have become the main axis and motivation for my reading, the two milestones as I call them, the 500,000-page mark, and the 1,000,000-page mark.

Let’s talk about the first one, I am 188,353 pages away from it, according to my calculations I will reach in 2,571 days, that means that by June 18, 2027, I should be celebrating this milestone, but that will be mean that I’ll only have about 4 years to read the other 500,000 pages left in my project, so I am working the shorten that date.

For the second milestone, the projections suggest that I am 9,396 days away, and the end date will be February 24, 2046, almost 15 years later than my intended goal.

This number has come down dramatically, on February 6 of this year, I had projected that I would finish on March 19, 2047, that is 389 days gained in 4 months.

My main focus is to at least gain another year of ground by the end of this reading year, and also leave less than 31,000 pages to read for year 13.

With that in mind, I am off to read two amazing books.

(Y-12) 30,000 pages and hungry for more

Yesterday was another great day of reading.

I finished Star Wars: Phasma, the origin story of the infamous chrome armored menace of the latest installments of the saga.

I found it really good, especially those little hints to Dune, and the writing by Delilah S. Dawson is top-notch, she keeps you glued to the book.

With these book under my belt, and a couple of graphic novels, I have reached another milestone on this year of reading, 30,000 pages.

This, coming 34 days before of what I originally projected .

Obviously this has given a tremendous confidence boost.

For my next books I will be going back to my favorite independent Mexican publishing house, Paraiso Perdido, with a couple of titles I have been meaning to read for a while.

On the graphic novel front, I’m going back home, that’s to my favorite comic book imprint, Vertigo Comics, responsible for Sandman, Preacher, Transmetropolitan, among many other classics.

To start off, or continue, I’ll finish Daytripper, created by the Brazilian dynamic duo of Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá.

Continuing with the first two volumes of Jason Aaroon’s Scalped.

And to top it off, a manga of Death, Morpheus’ older sister, created by the incomparable Jill Thompson.

Some pretty cool things ahead of me.

40,000 pages, here I come.

(Y-12) Back for more

I have been away for more than 2 weeks, crazy busy with my day to day life.

Reading was put aside for some days in order to get things done.

But now, I am back in the saddle, and eager to gain some ground.

I am doing a Star Wars run, that started on May the 4th, and it will culminate on may 25, which marks the 43th anniversary of the release of Episode IV .

The tally has been a couple of graphic novels about The Clones Wars.

Just about to finish A New Dawn, the first novel of the new Canon, and directly linked to the amazing animated show Rebels.

Also, I’ll try to read to read the history about Captain Phasma, this of course over the weekend

Tomorrow I’ll do a complete update on my numbers, the only thing I can say is that I am over 28,000 pages an still have about 143 days left of reading for this year.

(Y-12) May the 4th be with you

Happy Star Wars Day!!!

As you may know I am a huge fan of the Star Wars universe, and around this time each year, I like to go back to a galaxy far, far away.

For this year I’ll try something new, I will start today my Star Wars reading marathon, and it will end on May 25th, which marks the date A New Hope was released back in 1977.

I started this morning with John Jackson Miller’s book A New Dawn, focusing on rogue Jedi Kanan and the staring point of the new canon in the universe of Star Wars books.

Also, some graphic novels from the non-canon, and now dubbed Legends storyline of Star Wars, stories from the Clone Wars era.

Right now I am about half-way thru watching Rogue One, and in all honesty, it is my favorite movie from the more recent releases.

(Y-12) Results of the weeklong #StayAtHomeReadathon

I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Yesterday was the last day of the weeklong #StayAtHomeReadathon organized by the reading tracking app Bookly.

The task was to read 25 hours between April 13 and April 19.

That’s about 3.5 hours per day.

Needless to say, I didn’t got quite got to there, but 18 hours reading is not such bad way to pass the week.

On those 1,685 total pages are more than amazing.

This days I’ll try to finish another book, and keep on chipping away at those pages.

Tomorrow I’ll post my progress.

The final day of Bookly’s #StayAtHomeReadathon

I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Today is the final day of the week-long readathon using the amazing Bookly reading app.

As I stated in my last post, the objective was to read 25 hours between April 13 and April 19, as I enter the final day of reading my task still has a little under 8 hours to go.

Yesterday was a really good day of reading, 441 total pages, and I finished a couple of classic DC Comics storylines, Zero Hour and Flashpoint.

And today I’ll continue my adventure thru the DC Comics Multiverse, now it is the time for Batman/Flash: The Button, and Doomsday Clock.

Also, I finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and I have to say that it blew me away, I didn’t think it was going to be so good, it was such the case that I read it in one day.

Now I’ll focus on Guillermo del Toro’s novelization of The Shape of Water.

(Y-12) Third day of the Bookly #stayathomereadathon and the revisiting of some old friends

Hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy.

I am participating on the Bookly latest readathon, a pretty good way to pass this hard times, a bit of light in all of this darkness.

The main goal is to read 25 hours between April 13 to April 19.

So far I have read

Monday 2 hours and 42 minutes

Tuesday 1 hour and 27 minutes

And today, so far, I have read 1 hour and 24 minutes.

That gives me a total of 5 hours and 33 minutes.

Not bad.

Hopefully, I’ll finish the day over 7 hours.

Now for the important part, what I am reading.

I am about to finish The Night of the Hunter, the 25th book of the Legend of Drizzt saga, it’s always a pleasure be back at Faerûn.

I will start the next volume, Rise of the King, this alongside the novelization of the Academy award winning movie The Shape of Water, directed by the amazing Guillermo del Toro.

In the comic book/graphic novel front, I’ll be revisiting some classic DC comics storylines, Zero Hour and Flashpoint.

This as a prelude to read to some events that I haven’t got around to see, The Button and Doomsday Clock.

I have a lot of great material ahead, and a great challenge to tackle.

For now, I am off to read.

(Y-12) Keep on reading

Hope everyone is safe and healthy.

We still have 21 days left of the mandatory quarantine, as off today the last day would be April 30, the only thing that we can do is go out to purchase essentials things like groceries and medicine, a strict curfew has yet to be enforced.

But as the thing is shaping up here in Mexico, we are still in for the long haul.

In this still really bleary situation the only thing left to do, for us who have the immense privilege, is to stay home.

With that in mind, here is how my reading is progressing.

On the book front, there are still 36 books left on this year’s reading list.

I have finished the amazing Malebolge, written by Ruy Feben, and published by what I considered to be one of the best Mexican independent publishing houses.

The book expands over 15 short tales, that for me is like opening doors in a poorly lighted corridor in some madhouse, to find some hellish scene behind each and everyone, it is beautifully executed, and a refreshing read, go and learn Spanish, and purchase it, you won’t regret it.

The next book on my list, and one I have already started reading it, is the next chapter of the now mythical adventure of the rogue Drow Drizzt Do’Urden.

The Night of the Hunter is the first book on the Trilogy Companion Codex and book number 28 on The Legend of Drizzt saga, and it finds the Companions of the Hall walking ancient familiars paths, while in an ancient Dwarven city trouble is brewing in the worst possible way.

On the graphic novel/comic book front, I finished two amazing stories.

First off, and much to my surprise, was a crossover between the famous Spider-Man villain Venom and the Children of Atom, the X-men.

In Poison X, written by Cullen Bunn, the X-men team up with Eddie Brock to face and interstellar threat, a band of symbiote wearing mercenaries ready to take over the whole universe.

The other graphic novel that I finished, while catching some much-needed sunshine, was the third volume of World of Warcraft, this amazing story-arc was written by the legendary author Walter Simonson.

The stakes get even higher, and much of the creatures of Azeroth must band together to make front to the impending wave of the undead Lich ready to swallow everything in their path.

To continue with my reading, I finished the Legenderry Red Sonja miniseries, issues 4 and 5, and I’ll continue with the main series, written by Bill Willingham, and another miniseries of Red Sonja, written again by Marc Andreyko.

As you can see, I have been keeping busy.

Now I would like to talk about some of my numbers.

In my quest to reach 30,000 for this of reading I still have 5,796 net pages left, and I have a registered total of 24,240 pages for this twelve year of reading.

I am also 32 days ahead of schedule for this year of reading.

On the bigger picture, my projected date for reaching the 500,000-page mark is August 30, 2027, that is 4 days better than the last time.

My projected date to reach my ultimate goal, 1,000,000 pages is now July 20, 2046.

That means that I am 5,528 days behind schedule and by the time I reach this coveted number I would be 65 years, 1 month, and 15 days old.

There is still a lot of work to do.

But with each passing day, I gain a bit of ground.

For now, I am off to read.

(Y-12) The day of reaching 20,000 pages and some Legenderry comics

I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

According to my calculations for this year of reading, I should have reached 20,000 pages today.

I am glad to inform you that now I am standing at 23,754 of total pages read for this year.

That means that I am 32 days ahead of schedule, the first time for my twelve years that I have been developing this project.

With the official announcement, by the Mexican government, of extending the date for social distancing until April 30th, I will keep on pursuing some side projects.

To start off, I will keep on pounding away on the idea of reading a book every week of the year, right now I have still 37 books to go, that gives me about 5 days to finish each upcoming book.

On that note, I have finished the final volume of the amazing Dragonlance Chronicles series, which at first glance feels I bit like your standard fantasy series, but at the halfway point of the second volume starts building upon itself, to finish with a powerful crescendo, that leaves you wanting more, fortunately, there is still a lot more stories to explore.

My next book will be from my favorite Mexican independent publishing house, Paraiso Perdido, this time it is Malebolge, written by Ruy Feben, a Dantesque collection of little snippets of modern circles of madness and horror.

On the comic book/graphic novel front, I will be going into the Steampunk universe created by legendary writer Bill Willingham, of Fables fame, in which he takes famous characters such as Green Hornet, The Phantom, Vampirella, and Red Sonja, all of them inhabiting an ever-expanding Victorian setting, in which, their stories intertwine.

I started with the Red Sonja miniseries, written by Marc Andreyko, and illustrated by Rodney Buchemi, and with some gorgeous cover by the incredible Joe Benitez, read his series Lady Mechanika.

This amazing material will help me with my second pursuit, reaching 30,000 pages by the time this scary situation permits us to go back to some routine, which we should really focus on not going back to “normal” but instead finding new ways to coexist in a healthier and more humane way.

I have 6,330 pages still to go, a big number, but it is doable.

Lastly, I have been running my numbers for my two major milestones of this project, reaching 500,000 pages, and 1,000,000 pages.

For what concerns my first 500,000, and according to my calculations, my new date for reaching this coveted number will be September 3 of 2027.

I have been gaining ground on this date, at the start of February of this year my estimated date was December 28 of 2027, that’s more than 3 months of progress.

The thing that really concerns me is the finishing date of my 1,000,000 pages, right now, according to my calculations, I would reach this coveted number on July 29, 2046, that is more than 15 years behind schedule.

The thing that gives me hope is that from the end of February I have gained 111 days, that is that I was 5,644 days behind on February 29, as of today, April 5, I am 5533 days behind schedule.

Little steps toward my bigger.

And with that in mind, I am off to read.

(Y-12) Between X-Men and Bounty Hunters

I start my first day of reading, this with the sole purpose of reaching 30,000

Besides reading Dragons of Spring Dawning, I started reading a new series from a galaxy far, far away, Bounty Hunters.

To tell the true, I have been waiting to premiere, right now it has two issues, and I purchased the first one.

By the cover alone it looks pretty cool.

The other thing I am currently reading is some compilations of the X-men, I started with the Blue collection on volume 0, this has some issues from the mid 90s.

Let’s see how many pages I can pile up today, on this the first day of 25 of self isolation.
