Short story challenge, day eight

I have forgotten how good was the story The Tower of the Elephant from Conan The Cimmerian, it showcases some of the weirdness of the creatures from the vast menagerie that The Barbarian faces.

Today, I went back to Wizards anthology, to enjoy a fantastic tale by Mary Rosenblum, involving wizards, fading building, and the color of words.

On another note, I am very excited to tell that I have found a couple of new books of short story collections, I’ll share them tomorrow.

For now, I am off to read.

Balancing act, part seven

This weekend’s readathon didn’t yield the outcome I hoped for, this of course entirely my fault.

I read for about 5 hours, and only 300 pages, not what I was hoping for.

But that’s a missed opportunity, one ot will not happen again, as I check the numbers left for this year of reading,I find the window is closing to achieve my goal, and leave the next 10 year of my project as I predicted.

This gives me a pathway, and motivation, to reach those goals, starting of with my balancing act for February, from which, I still have 6,545 pages to go.

This with the endgame of reading the 37,984 that make up this year’s goal, from which I still have 22,733 pages to go, and about 119 days to do so.

As all the times I feel discouraged, or overwhelmed by my task, I ask for assistance to some of my favorite characters, and authors.

This is the bounty to help me along the way.

Let’s get to it.

Short story challenge, day seven

After I few hiccups, and one missed day, I am back on track with my mini project, the last story I read, Holly and Iron, from the anthology Wizards, written by Garth Nix, made me want to get into his alternative reality of the magical Ingland, and it’s already on my never ending wish list.

Today I will be going back to the adventures of The infamous Cimmerian Conan, this time is Tower of the Elephant, first published in Weird Tales of March 1933.

For now, I am off to read.

Better luck next time

This was my worst outing of any readathon I have ever tried.

Of the 24 hours of the goal, I only could amass 5 hours 3 minutes.

I’ll have to tally how many pages did I read, so much things to adjust, and to consider.

The next readathon is until May, a month long Star Wars marathon, full of comics, books, and TV series.

24in48 readathon update two

As I mentioned yesterday, I will be really satisfied if I reach the halfway point of this readathon, which it would be 12 hours, a half marathon if you will.

Right now, I am 7 hours and 35 minutes to reach my goal.

Hopefully I’ll chip away some pages, and to do so, I’ll read some of Toll the Hounds, a couple of graphic novels, Hulk visionaries Vol.4 and Hit-Girl in India, and everything that crosses my path.

I’ll squeeze some intense reading before and in between the big game.

For now, I am off to read.

Short story challenge, day five

Continuing with this mini project that I am enjoying quite a lot, the next story is by famous author Garth Nix, Holly and Iron, from the anthology Wizards, same as the last mesmerizing tale by Neil Gaiman.

Described as a spooky and suspenseful adventure of two very different magical beliefs collide.

Sounds really exciting, for now, I am off to read.

24in48 readathon update

As the first day of reading starts, I have read a little over 2 hours, as I said on my other post, to reach the 24 hours will be kind of tricky, but I’ll do my best.

I’ll push on, only 21 hours and 20 minutes stand on my way.

For now,I am off read.

Short story challenge, day four

For today’s short story I’ll be changing to the anthology edited by Jack Dann and Gardner Dozois, Wizards.

And to start things off right, the first story is from Neil Gaiman, The Witche’s Headstone, set in the world of his highly recommended The Graveyard Book, following the adventures of Nobody Owens.

For now, I am off to read.

24in48 readathon about to begin

Just one and a half hour to begin the second readathon of this year, 24in48 readathon, my personal favorite.

The task is simple, read 24 hours in 48 hours, that’s between 10:01 p.m. of today, Friday February 5, until 9:59 p.m. of Sunday February 7, this because of the time zone I live in.

This one is going to be tricky, along my reading I have one of my favorite days of the year, Superbowl Sunday.

I’ll try my best to at least read 12 hours, but most of all, I plan to have great fun.

The clock is set, and I am ready to go.

Off to read

Short story challenge, day three

To continue this great energy booster mini project, I’ll read the next short story on the anthology The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian, The God in the Bowl.

As with the last story, The Frost-Giant’s Daughter, I was already familiar with these adventures of Conan from their comic book adaptation by Dark Horse Comics of the 2000’s

For tomorrow, I’ll probably switch books, I’m contemplating a story from Legends II anthology, there’s one from Robin Hobb that’s making googly eyes at me.

For now, I am off to read, and get ready for a weekend filled with reading.
