I am entering the final week of January, and it will be an intense one.
The two main things to consider for this week, firstly, and the one which holds great weight, is that I still have 3,394 pages left on my goal for this month.
Secondly, and something that will help greatly to achieve that monumental goal, is the first readathon of the year, the goal, 10 hours of total reading, this, from January 28 to 31, and of course using Bookly app to track the progress.
For today’s reading, at least what is left of the day, I’ll keep on pounding away on Toll the Hounds, currently on page 159, and read the last volume that I bought, number 8, of the mesmerizing manga Berserk.
Each year I try to participate in several readathons, and this will not be the exception.
So far I have planned to participate in at least four this year, 2 organized by different groups, and 2 self appointed.
This will be :
Bookly Winter Readathon
24in48 February 2021
May the force be with you readathon
Seven days of reading Summer Edition
The first one will be Bookly Winter Readathon, organized by the Bookly app, the objetive is to read 10 hours from January 28 to January 31, tracking this on the app.
The second one is organized by the amazing team of 24in48.com, this is a great challenge, the goal is to read 24 total hours over a weekend, this time it will be the weekend of February 6 and 7.
The last two, May the Force be with you readathon, and Seven Days of Reading summer edition, are self appointed.
So, from May 4, the official Star Wars, to May 25, the anniversary of Episode IV, I will read anything, and everything about one of my favorite universes.
I will focus on The Old Republic era, it’s not canon anymore but I have been meaning to read it.
The last one on this preliminary list is the readathon to close out my reading year, and to celebrate my birthday, and as the last one, it’s an intense week of daily challenges, it will take place from May 31 to June 6, my 40th birthday.
I will try a new thing this year, a monthly reading challenge, for this occasion I will take the challenge from my favorite Mexican independent publishing house , Paraiso Perdido.

As soon I finish with The Assassin Apprentice, I will start the first book, Cuando las luces aparezcan by Roberto Abad.
A pretty active year, and hopefully, more activities will surface
Just as a quick update, I still have 5,353 pages to go on January, and my plan for today is to finish Assassin Apprentice, currently on page 372, and read a couple of comic books.
This morning I had a very productive reading, finished the first volume of Dawn of X, read a couple of short stories from Ciudas y otros relatos, written by Édgar Velasco, and published by the amazing independent publisher Paraiso Perdido.
For today I am aiming to surpass 1,000 pages tracked using the Bookly app .
It’s a long shot, but I have some waiting to do, so I’ll use my time wisely.
I am up and running on this the first day of Bookly’s Fall Readathon.
I have already logged 2 hours and 2 minutes of my goal of 10 hours.
In order to achieve this I should read 2 and a half hours per day, so this is a great motivator to push forward.
My focus was on two things, my current book , Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf, from which I read from page 88 to 176.
The other is the second volume of Werewolf by night, from which I read from page 108 to 167, and to my delight there’s an appearance by Frankenstein’s monster.
I am aiming today for more than 3 hours of reading and a bit over 300 pages.
On the movie front, I just watched 1 of the 19 movies that were on my list, and it’s probably time to scrap this part from next year’s festivities.
On the reading front, it went a bit better, but not that much, I finished Frankenstein, and read the about half of The Halloween Tree.
Also ,first volume of Marvel’s The Vampire Tales, about 1/5 of the second volume of Werewolf by Night, a couple of short stories from Avatar’s Night of the Living Dead, and the crown jewel of this year’s festivities, Hellboy: The Storm and The Fury.
Not a very productive run, but a really satisfying one.
Right now I am gearing up for my next task, Bookly’s Fall Readathon, which will take place from November 5 to 8, and the main goal is to read 10 hours using the app.
I still have a long way to go on my ultimate goal for this year, 50,000 pages.
I have 45 days left, and about 8,000 pages to go.
But as I said before, one page at a time.
For this weekend I am locked in with two goals.
First, to finish The Bonehunters
According to Bookly, I still have about 4 hours, this book is really complex, and has a vast amount of characters,, so my reason has been really slow, but I am sure this weekend will suffice to get it done.
This will put me over my minimal goal of reading for this year, which was 41,665 pages, a pretty successful year.
The other thing I plan to achieve is to reach my monthly goal of pages, once again using Bookly to track my reading.
That’s 775 pages to go, so I’ll mix in some comic books, and this goal will be surpassed easily.
