(Y-11) a step closer

This morning I woke up feeling really happy with myself.

This is because I reach another milestone of this year of reading, 40,000 pages.

I have 60 days left on my year of reading and 12,974 pages to read in order to reach my ultimate goal.

It is still a gargantuan task, but as always I am up for the challenge.

The immediate goal is to reach 48,000 pages and thus making this my best year of reading.

This of course with my eyes always on the ultimate prize.

Off to read.

(Y-11) Old School Monday…The Incredible Hulk (1962-1999) #1

Hey true believers, and welcome to another old school monday.

And in the spirit of the legendary comic book creative team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby this comic book this particular comic book is excelsior.

I think The Hulk is one of my favorite creation by Stan and Jack.

And I could not put my finger on why, until I say this image.

It resembles the monster from Frankenstein, one of my favorite characters of all time, so much that I think my love for the character was visually obtain.

So, this is a pretty straightforward origin story, where Doctor Bruce Banner is accidentally hit with a gamma ray bomb and he develops some extraordinary powers.

Also, it remains me of the whole Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde thing, where the latter is the secret personality of the mellow and easy going Dr. Banner.

This is a must for all comic book fans not only because of the iconic character, but also to see the beautiful art work of one of the best to ever do it.

After this, I’ll dive into some classic storylines of The Hulk, yeah, this one hit me right in my nostalgic bone.

(Y-11) Numbers and more numbers

I have started with my master’s degree classes, and to get my rhythm back has been quite taxing.

That includes my reading.

Because of this, the projections that I do in my head for reaching particular numbers of reading on particular dates, do not go as smoothly as I would like.

I plan to be over 40,000 total pages by august 15.

Right now I have 39,064 total pages read for this year, 936 to reach my immediate goal of 40,000 pages.

On a larger scale, I have still 8,641 pages to read for this year to be the best ever and 13,963 pages to reach my goal of this year, 53,000 pages.

So, seven days to read 936 pages, and then 58 days to read the remaining 13,000 pages.

Piece of cake.

Now, off to read.

(Y-11) Let’s talk about my numbers

So, I am again thinking of my ultimate goal for this year of reading, 53,000 pages.

My total is 38,706 pages and I have 67 days to read 14,294 pages.

That gives me one immediate goal, to surpass my total for the best year of reading, the first one, with a total of 47,705.

In order to do that I have to read 8,999 pages.

Then, I’ll work to get as close to my ultimate goal as I can.

That gives an average of approximately 228 pages per day in order to get there.

Quite the gargantuan task.

But nothing a good amount of coffee and comic books cannot achieve.

(Y-11) Old school Monday…The Demon (1972-1974) # 1

Welcome to another Old School Monday.

On this occasion I’ll go back to one of my favourite creators, Jack Kirby.

But this time it is one of his works with DC Comics, Etrigan The Demon.

In this origin story, the Demon is summoned by legendary wizard Merlin, to protect him from evil sorceress Morgaine Le Fey.

After she is defeated, Etrigan leaves Camelot, and transforms into a man, that in the distant future will be known as Jason Blood.

I have a special place in my heart for this time of characters of the DC Universe, you know of to the left of the mainstream characters, doing their thing, and fighting the forces of evil magic along the way.

And as a plus, you can delight on the fantastic art and storytelling skills of one of the best to work on the industry.

This is one of the series that I pretend to read all in single issues, just for the fun of it.

Now, off to read.

(Y-11) new comic books and close to another milestone

Today I went to picked up some back issues that were back order and picked up a few other things.

With these I almost complete my Dragonero collection, it has 17 issues printed in Mexico, this of the more of 50 that exist in Italy.

I grabbed the third issue of the paranormal adventures of Dylan Dog, and back order the first two issues.

And finally, a couple of graphic novels.

The Magic Order by Mark Millar and Transmetropolitan, the third volume, by Warren Ellis.

On the front of my total reading for this year, I am really close to 38,000 pages and pledged to reach 40,000 by the 15 of this month, that gives me 12 days to read a little over 2,000 pages.

And on that note.

Off to read.
