(Y-11) a test run

I’m having one of my last long reading sessions, a sort of warm up for tomorrow’s grand event.

And of course I am chipping away at Memories of Ice, which I am aiming to finish it on Saturday afternoon.

As you can see above, I have about 9 hours left of reading, and I’ll try to push that down to close to 7 hours by the time I start my readathon.

For now,I’ll squeeze one last reading session before I succumb to Morpheus.

Off to read.

(Y-11) and then, craziness followed.

As I am preparing to embark on the 24in48 readathon, I came across another reading challenge for the next week.

Reading Rush is comprised of 7 challenges, one for each day of the week, and it starts on July 22 and runs until July 28, so I thought, why not close out my vacation period with a bang

Hopefully I can finish this two challenges, is going to be grueling, but I’m up for it.

Also, I could not finish Memories of Ice, so, I’ll squeeze it in my weekend of reading.

Now, off to read.

(Y-11) pounding away.

With two days to go for the start of the 24in48 readathon, I keep on reading and adding books to my TBR pile.

Right now I have downloaded 10 graphic novels on my Kindle Unlimited account, you can only have 10 at one time, and I will probably read them on Saturday afternoon.

Right now, I’ll keep on chipping away at Memories of Ice, currently on page 544 of 913, and hopefully I’ll get it done before the start of the readathon.

I have to say that this book has been amazing, and if you are planning to read The Malazan Book of the Fallen, keep in mind that the first two books are quite dense and help to establish the intricate world, but it’s all worth it.

In between all of this reading and planning, I took some time to go to the children’s museum of Ciudad Juárez, obviously with my two kids and my lovely wife.

The museum’s is one of our favourite places in town and as always we had and awesome time.

I’ll get back to my reading, some time I’ll devote to the book and in between some graphic novels time, I’ll read the rest of The Pathfinder Collections I have in my digital collection.

Off to read.

(Y-11) Old School Monday… Sensation Comic (1942-1952) #1

Hello and welcome to another Old School Monday,

As I mention last week, I’ll continue with the origin story of one of the most important characters in comic book history, Wonder Woman.

As the story follows, Princess Diana brings back Captain Trevor to the world of man, here while waiting for him to get better, stops a bank robbery, becomes a carnival performer and switches identity with a nurse, from whom, she receives her incognito name, Diana Prince.

It is really interesting to see how the other characters, and Wonder Woman herself, depict women, I know that we are talking about another era, but it is really palpable how women supposed to be pretty and that conflicts with being powerful.

At least there is an effort to try and break down that misleading notion of not being able to be both, women can be whatever the fuck they want to be.

I’ll continue next week with the first issue of Diana’s solo series.

(Y-11) Last report of the day

Today was a Feng Shui kind of day around the house, so we did a little tidy up, which is never fun, but on the bright side, I have now some extra shelf space, so hurray for that.

I’ll keep on working on Memories of Ice, and hopefully I’ll get it done by early morning Friday, just in time for the 24in48 readathon.

Right now, as you can see, I’m closing in on 400 pages.

And that will be my goal for the day.

Off to read.

(Y-11) new comic books and back to reality

This passed week I did not read as much as usual.

I was taking a break to recharge some batteries and go visit an old friend, the sea.

It was quite relaxing and I enjoyed catching some sun and eating.

Beautiful scenery to be really enjoy, thus my lack of a great progress, but have no fear, because next weekend, I’ll devote myself to the 24in48 readathon and it will be really productive.

Right now I am working on Memories of Ice, because I want to be done by early Friday morning and start with my readathon with a couple of short novels from a Mexican editorial house, Paraiso Perdido, but more on that later.

For now I’ll use my new comic book acquisitions as a palate cleanser, this time it will be issue number six of Justice League Dark and the ninth and final issue of DC Heroes in Crisis.

Off to read.

(Y-11) closing in

With little over a week from the start of the 24in48 Readathon, I decided that for the next few days there will be no clocks and only two goals.

The first is to finish Memories of Ice by July 19, in the morning.

And the second task is to replenish my junk food stash for the upcoming reading sessions.

Off to read.

(Y-11) Old school Monday… All-Star Comics #8

Hello, and welcome to another installment of Old School Monday.

For this occasion I read the issue that had the privilege to be the first appearance of iconic character Wonder Woman.

Originally released on the last day of 1941, it introduces us to Princess Diana and Paradise Island, and the turn of events that lead her to leave the peaceful island.

This origin story expands to Sensation Comics # 1 and eventually to the first issue of her solo comic, Wonder Woman, which I’ll read the following weeks.

As an added bonus this issue also features the Justice Society of America, including some of my favorite characters like Sandman and Spectre.

I love this type of comic and the way they establish a graphic standard for storytelling for generations to come.

For now, I’ll go back to trying to chip away some pages of Memories of Ice.
